With regard to the bi-directional road crossing markings, is it not sensible to encourage pedestrians to look both ways anyway, given that cyclists could bear down on them from any direction:eek::D;)

Very good point, especially pedestrians that come from countries where they drive on the 'wrong' side of the road ;)

If your comment relates to the layout then many won't argue although it's still to be seen how well it works. If your comment relates to the quality of the job all I can say is wait until you get here before commenting. The Bulletin was right this week in suggesting all political parties and the community need to get together to fix the current problems. This must however include a complete review of phase one and the agreement to redo all the pedestrian surfaces again. In my opinion this should be done over 2/3 years with a start being the pavements upto avenida de Paris. I thought on my first visit the shop side of the road might be considered acceptable but frankly it looks absolutely terrible. No visitor to the port would ever believe this is a new scheme only just completed. I have yet to speak to one restaurant owner or shop keeper who thinks it is anything but a disaster. On our recent trip across Spain every municipality had taken great pride in the pedestrian areas of their playas. Everyone should keep the pressure up on the local council so that the winter activity next year starts putting our world to right.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I was writing while in PDP - sadly I'm now back in a very grey and chilly UK...

We experienced the new layout as pedestrians and motorists and think it is much better, especially when strolling along the wider footpath while shopping. We had no problem parking within a short walk of our favourite restaurants etc., though we shall have to see whether this is still the case when we return in high season. I cannot comment on what it's like for those who are less mobile, but I'd have thought the extended apron in front of the shops should make life easier.

The finish may not be perfect but it seemed fine to us.

Looking forward to seeing it all for ourselves in a few weeks It has certainly been an interesting winter spring watching it all develop

I think wider pavements and less traffic will be a great benefit but adequate car parks need to be provided for visitors We are used to paying a lot to park a car in this country for the day so wouldnt expect it to be free on holiday

One question Crossing the road to the beach on the proper crossing what happens when you cross the cycle lanes ?? Who has the right of way ? I shall be looking right left 20 times myself ! but was interested in the legalities of it

Not sure about the legalities myself, but I would have thought that the pedestrian crossing gives you right of way.

I've seen 'give way'-signs here in Ireland painted on the bicycle lanes wbery time they'd come up against a pedestrian right of way situation.

I was once advised, that the pedestrian crossings in Mallorca are "just a suggestion!" :o;)

Just found this:

"Pedestrian crossings
The Law for pedestrian crossings until recently is not as strict as in for example, the UK where a driver is always at fault if the vehicle hits a pedestrian on the crossing. You must step onto the crossing, remembering to look LEFT, and show the palm of your hand to any approaching vehicles. Previously, they still did not have to stop, but a new Law involving penalty points means that the drivers can be penalized now for not stopping. Many tourists are injured, some killed each year, for only looking right when crossing the road. "

See Driving in spain the laws, the laws on driving in spain, speed limits spain

As a driver it always annoys me just a little bit when people do that, very American and appears very authoritative!! As a pedestrian, I tend to alter it a little to more of an apology that I am making them stop, and always try to mouth a thank you! :D

We always acknowledge anyone who stops for us and lots of Thank yous !

Thank you all for the information

Just seen the same two blokes, who appeared to be the only ones we ever saw doing the works along the front, painting the railings on the bridge next to Tolos.

Great timing.....but I suppose it will stop people feeding bread to the ducks for a while

Can confirm. American living in Pollensa here... Brits are often annoyed :)

Hi Copper, re your post about paying for parking.I think that would be the beginning of the end .WE have always had wonderful & free parking along the playa, now, if parking becomes a problem ( which it is / will become) & Charging becomes the norm then Pp will absolutely loose its advantage over other resorts. Don't mix up parking at home with free parking & great access as in PP.I still think end to end parking is ridiculous.

Parking is still free at the moment, the machines usually go up for the blue zones at the beginning of May but nothing so far.

Hi Sparky, no I mean free parking along the Playa, not the town zone.

Very arty! - is it a bit too arty, to the extent that people won't sit on it assuming it's sculpture? I do wonder if it's going to be a magnet for graffiti - and am also not sure why you'd want to sit on the side of the road without the magnificent sea views. That said, I do like it - it's always good to see something a bit quirky and different.
