I have heard they have only held back 25% of the money. When we had our recent extension done we paid in installments after completion of each stage ...and only when we were happy with the work. Once the money's been paid it's very difficult to ensure any defects will be rectified.

All i know is what was reported in the DDM last Sunday, here is the translation :-

Pollença
The City Council "shall" repair the deficiencies found in the first line.
12.06.2016

The municipality of Pollença said yesterday that it intends to "require" the construction company repairing the damages that have been detected in the first line of Port after the implementation of the first phase of the project semipeatonalización.

The Consistory ensured that both repair the deficiencies found in the latest revisions as those that appear in the future as hidden defects will be claimed.

The municipal institution reiterated that it has not yet accepted the end of work submitted by the contractor, INCOC, and not pay settlements until the faults are solved.

The original report can be seen here :- El Ayuntamiento "exigirá" la reparación de los fallos detectados en la primera línea - Diario de Mallorca

I don't think the translation is very good but it implies the settlement hasn't been paid which is maybe the 25%. I can't imagine a company would have done 5 months work and not been paid anything .

Having just got back from 11 days in PP I can say that I am delighted with all the changes. Our apartment is based in Llenaire so we got the chance to walk the full length and the wider pavements and one way traffic was a joy. With two young children on scooters it was lovely to be able to stroll to the pine walk not having to worry about them veering into the road or constantly having to tell them off for riding near pedestrians. We noticed the police tape where the pavement had buckled but it wasn't a problem and unfortunately often happens when work has just been completed as materials settle etc.

I also like the new seats (glass half full and all that). We all commented on how nice they look and create a nice area to sit if needs be, they are only is the much wider sections of pavement so didn't create any issues. I also liked the grey lounger chairs that appeared over looking the inlet and saw people sitting on them most days. As for children walking on them that would happen no matter what you put there, look at the beach side with the wall and benches, children are always walking along and on the benches. Unfortunately children like to climb and balance precariously on things. I am sure if there were signs stating no children to stand on the benches most parents would adhere but does it really matter? We aren't talking muddy shoes over there just sandy dusty and the breeze off the sea will take care of most of that.

We loved our break and all said it was one of the best, not necessarily because of the changes but they certainly helped. I think the more pressing issue than the woks was lack of beds and brollies but that's a discussion for another forum, once they went in I was also over the moon to see beds all the way up to La Roca (and what a better position that is in!) and it is lovely to see the Llenaire end of the town getting some love.

Sorry for my essay but wanted to convey that as a regular visitor we had no complaints at all (we even got the chance to meet Sparky one evening and tell her what a good job she does for what must be a thankless task sometimes!!).

Fantastic post.

As I pointed out previously its amazing how we all view things differently.

rapidly loosing love with P.P.

I wonder am I alone in my view ?

I'm certainly not. I think that along with the pedestrianisation, the new casa villa, sea bar, the upgraded Vila Concha and Pollensa Park and the new beach bars Pinaret is sparkling like it has never sparkled before.

been here last 3 weeks & waiting for things to be caught up & get back on track.Sadly there appears to be no catch up process. The front has never been brushed, sand everywhere, the concrete not been washed, the improvement in beach services has not materialised. It appears to me that there is far less "free area" of the beach available to people.rapidly loosing love with P.P.

Interested to know what you mean by "far less free space". Is this parking or is it the beach you are referring to?.
Cheers

Rest assured Pinaret you are not the only one with this view , thank goodness. I met with a local resident yesterday who has lived here for 30 years. We were strolling along the pedestrianisation and he was devastated at how much money had been wasted on the project to date for such a poor return.

It has been self evident from the start that the upside of the work to date has been the widening of the pavement area particularly for you guys who have, (for far too long) had to walk down the narrow and broken footpaths on the hotel side. It's also the case that widening the pavement has made a big difference down by the shops. Surely however, that was the bare minimum requirement of this project? However how can you possibly say that you are delighted with all the changes ? For information I have added a new set of photos of the pedestrianisation surface. I can guarantee this is all new because the joints and repairs and edges are deteriorating on a daily basis !

I think you are being unfair to prattyIG8. It's quite in order for pratty to write that they were delighted with all the changes. He is entitled to an opinion that may contradict yours. Particularly as his view was written in a non-confrontational way. It was just a view on the enjoyment of a holiday in PP.

As an aside, a good number of the photos you linked to were of the pavements as 'work in progress', not as the finished product. As has been pointed out, there are some problems outstanding and as has been mentioned in recent posts the Council is withholding part payment until these faults are repaired. Quite a normal arrangement when public realm works are undertaken be it PP or the UK.
The costs etc are something for the council and voters sort out, not tourists.

For goodness sake who is being confrontational? Both Pratty and I have the right to an opinion, I was agreeing with much of his comment but simply showing some new pictures and asking if he was delighted with them. The pictures I added were all taken yesterday and do not show work in progress. They show deterioration in progress. That includes repairs that have been done that are already breaking up. I'm not sure who the tourists are you refer to but anyone who truly cares about PP will do anything they can to ensure the Council gets the ongoing work right.

Don't ever take up wedding photography Chelseadons will you if you highlight defects like that! The brides mother wouldn't be happy....

On a serious note though, I can't see anything other than the contractors having to dig it all up and start again in the winter, watch this space. Seriously, would anyone pay someone if they left their drive looking like that? It's a good job PP doesn't suffer with bad frosts because after one the beach would look better laid than the pavement.

Totally agree Hoopy. I was out a couple of weeks ago and thought the whole resort was better than ever. All the recent negativity on here is baffling me ! To anyone who hasn't arrived yet and is feeling worried, please don't be. You will LOVE it !!
Ps The Mar Senses hotel looks fab too !

Well what can i say, it is obvious that some members are determined to ignore my many polite requests to stop posting when they have made their feelings known. I don't expect respect but i do feel that those who are voicing their opinions for the first time should not be shot down for saying that they are happy with the changes.

I am both sad and angry that i am left with no option but to temporarily close this thread until i speak with Pollensa to decide what further action to take.
