Serenity Coast ??

Well, the sign went up well before last Christmas. Thought it was to be another chinese restaurant, maybe I even posted about it? Just north of Ca N' Andreu this sign went up " Serenity Coast" with some quote underneath in both spanish and english with poetic stuff about the ocean meeting the sky and land blah, blah, blah.

Windows all snowcemmed so kinda rationalised it in me mind over the subsequent months . Come to the conclusion that it was a wholesale chinese medicine outlet. Crazy, when you think of it, but crazy things happen out here. Conclusion compounded by the opening this year of the chinese eaterie between Bonys and the Kasmir, that's enough Chinese restaurants thank you very much so when BLT arrive home tonight from our weekly day trip to Palma gobsmacked to hear Chinese musical sounds wafting out from the church.

Curiosity overcomes me so walk down the square and lo and behold the chinese medicine wholesaler has had it's windows cleaned , furniture in the road and a full blown show going on beside the church. Chinese acrobats and jugglers performing to seated locals with kiddies. Run into Jose Dos
( remember him from Bonys, last year ?) who greets me like a long lost friend and explains it's the official opening of a chinese and international restaurant . He's obviously part of the action and plates of canapes are passed out to various people in the street .

So dunno anymore at present folks, but looks like the second chinese opening in the square. Will find out more as the days unfold. If any of you good folk try it please post and explain what's going on .

Did you know the new one in the square is run by the same people who have the big one one on the Formentor road, just up from Hibiscus.

a GOOD chinese on the square wouldn't be an issue. The new one, by bony's is just so down market and trying to be a abit of everything. totally not in keeping with the square. I'm not overly concerned with all the restaurants being "traditional" mallorcan, in fact, had a fab menu del dia in the Indian a couple of doors away last week. However, restauranters are privilledged to have such a great location that they should try harder with the appearance. Lets hope the new Chinese is a really top notch one.

Shame, I don't go to PP for chinese food like many people, but somehow they
stay open year after year.The only thing we can all do is keep reviewing other
restaurants and use the good ones as much as possible or they too may turn
Chinese !!!

If you are out for a while its good to be able to eat other types of food, just for a change.

Ive even been known to try the kebab shop and (wash my mouth out) Burger King when I have been out on my own to do jobs!! Somehow it doesn't feel right being by yourself in restaurants full of couples and families.

What I am worried about is the new restaurant owners attitude in that the new Chinese has a TV and Footy on, also I heard a rumour that Murch Massala was thinking of doing the same!! Who wants their meal interrupted by footy and people jumping up from their meals to cheer!!!

lets keep footy in the footy type bars please, and go to eat after in a nice "conducive to food" atmosphere.

Lets not loose sight of the fact that us 'tourists' are not the only ones who use the restaurants, and just like we do at home in the UK the locals/inhabitants will like to go and have something different from their local fare from time to time.

It is down to supply and demand - if there are too many of one type and they are not up to standard or do not provide the right service(s) they will not all suvive.

The downside is that they are taking up restaurant space that might have been something really good and different.

When I walked past last night not a soul in either. Horrified to see TV screens up outside the lower one. New one packed , and I mean packed , with quite high class furniture but no people. Think Mr Plod will get them to move the tables in the road though cos about five car parking spaces gone now.

Not sure what's more worrying, empty chinese restaurants or the thought of 'em being converted to chinese " 1 Euro" shops !!!

Well, well, well.

Somebody explained to me tonight that this new restaurant is in fact the
" displacement" restaurant for the "Luna de Miel" ( the chinese restaurant) opposite the Marina entrance .The original site is being redeveloped ( well the floor where it is currently situated ) and will eventually return there.

The reason the sign has been up so long is apparently that they have had to wait for the correct lunar month for opening chinese restaurants !!!!

Whatever about other chinese restaurants I must say I was delighted to see La Villa opening it´s doors last year in Puerto Pollensa. We´ve been regulars of La Villa in Puerto Alcudia for years and I have to say that the food is always suberb and the service top notch. Its also a good sign that they get so much local trade but its a shame that for the bad chinese restaurants that are around they are all given a bad name.

Had a take-away from Serenity Coast last night ( purely for the benefit of the members on here ). We had a mixed starter, spare ribs in sauce, special fried rice, chicken and cashew nuts and a special chow mein the bill was €32.
We had 2 large white wines on the house while we waited. The staff were very helpful and polite and the quality and quantity of the food was fantastic.
Next time we will eat in as it is very nicely decorated and the aircon was set just right.

32 euros for a take away ???? You're a hero if it was for our benefit !!!! Given up take away here now as had terrible one from La Villa ( 20 + Euros ) and 20 + euros for Pizza takeway from Manduca. When you get MDD c 15 Euros at a lot of places, that ain't good value , in my opinion.

Bonyslad, the portions were huge we have frozen more than half of it so i think 2 meals for 2 at €32 is good value. It is about the same as we would pay in Plymouth but the quality is a tad better and the quantity is about the same..

PS you don't get 2 x white wines while you wait.

I think the only good Chinese in the port is La Vila, I wonder why they keep opening others, other than Pascalino and sometimes Luna Miel they don't get much custom. There's even a Chinese consul here now and we can't even get a Brit one!

Yes Ray i like La Villa as well and have posted a review, i have not had a bad meal in any of the Chinese places. As Bonyslad has said, Serenity Coast is an offshoot of Luna De Miel, which is closing to be refurbed. Pascalino and Luna de Miel are the same company.
