Thankyou both for your replies, i'm so pleased, i think that the sis pins and the miramar add an elegant touch, without being too posh!
I love to see people sitting on the terraces enjoying a leisurely breakfast, lunch or long cod drink. :):)

This sounds great news indeed.

What has been an icon of PP now open again, not to forget La Singala.

Best news on the Forum this year!:D

Puerto Pollensa here I come

Although re-booked for the Miramar next Saturday, I've already booked my September return with the Sis Pins (spiritural home, mostly gin :D). There are new lower rates on the main Sis Pins website and I'm assured by Antonia that these apply to all returning guests. They are, in fact, much lower than the previous Globespan rate, saving up to €170 per week . I assume these will rise next year once things are up and running again but only time will tell. Looking forward to seeing my favourites restaurants again ( Na Ruixa, The Yacht Club and ElCano - funny how these never seem to get reviewed yet they're very good, especially Na Ruixa )

Great pics on this site Favie ........... quite nostalgic as well, in fact they are still showing the "Sis Pins"

Yes CD...lovely pics....I booked my first visit to PP through them!:)
They are still handling bookings for the two hotels...see Pollenca's post - one page back.:)

OTHER NEWS
Pollensa hotel finally opens after Globespan collapse
STAFF REPORTER
THE Hotel Sis Pins in Pollensa finally opened its doors to the public yesterday after months of speculation over its future in the wake of the collapse of its owners, the tour operators Globespan.
The emblematic hotel had played host to a string of famous faces since it originally opened in 1952, but uncertainty had been rife over the employment of its staff who had traditionally had jobs at the hotel for the whole of the tourist season.

Friction arose when the hotel’s new British owners had refused to guarantee employment and pay the regular workers at Sis Pins for the whole of the tourist season. They would only provide contracts, they said for the period of time when there were reservations at the hotel and therefore when profit could be assured. However, agreements were reached and yesterday the hotel’s manager Mateu Bibiloni said:“We haven’t got any reservations yet because there are no tour operators with the Sis Pins on their books, but we are working on it.” The management have launched a marketing campaign on the internet aimed at the international community whereas previously, clients had almost exclusively been British. “We realise there won’t be profits this year,” said Bibiloni, “but we’ve got to gradually develop the business so we can at least cover our costs.”

La S*******

La S****** is open!!! - I am sure because we are staying there for the week. We are only the second couple (and significantly the first English couple) to book in since they reopened last weekend.

We were booked into Ora Playa but ´decided it wasn´t for us´ so to speak and checked out before we unpacked, and transferred to La S******. A good move - well worth the extra expense.

Why La S****** with the asterisks you may think. I am under instructions from Mrs Clinkham, not to publicise La S******* before a decision is made to book for next year.;)

Hotel Sis Pins

we're booked in to the Hotel Sis Pins for a week in September - can't wait - always wanted to stay there but was only scottish flights before. La Singala also looks lovely, so might have a look at that while we're out there.

Those rates look really good, well as good as the Euro will allow. But a prime location like that and what seems like a loyal following, it's nice to see they're not taking advantage of everyone missing it so much. I've not stayed here, but can see it being a contender for a cheap week away.

Has anyone stayed in the room that has the grand terrace? What was it like?

Now in Puerto Pollensa enjoying the rain

I´m currently in the Miramar but have booked the Sis Pins for September :).
I had a chat with Peter, the new English owner, and also some of the lovely staff like Antonio and Hazel. Great to see the place re-opened but apparently it was touch and go . I´ll do a further critique of the two hotels when I get home but so far the Sis Pins is in the lead ;) (no disrespect to the Miramar which is also excellent). There's a lot of similarities (I'm on the 2nd floor of the "old" Miramar) and I can only say that I wouldn't want a terrace in either hotel as they are so overlooked by the rooms above. Second floor in either is fine, possibly 3rd floor for the Miramar (or new block). The Sis Pins now allows you to run up a tab (bar, food etc) and pay at the end of your stay . I'm surprised that some people thought you needed to book a package with Globespan to stay at the Sis Pins (they didn't fly from Belfast either). Things are much better now for the independent traveller as the Sis Pins only requires a 20% deposit (Globespan took 100% upfront). Had lunch there yesterday and things looking good

I'm now booked in the Sis Pins for early August and really looking forward to it! Will report on my stay, with comparisons to last year which was excellent.
Only 6 weeks to go....

La Singala

Filling up July/August with few vacancies in September.

Josep hosted a birthday party for previous guests on Saturday night, who were staying in nearby accomodation .

Sis Pins: Wish the new owners well and good to see it open, but I wonder whether big A board advertising World Cup fixtures fits in with the ambience of the hotel. Or is it just me.... However, if it helps ensures the continued operation of the hotel..

just back from another great week in pp have stayed in la singala many times in the past but this year stayed in pollensa mar apts from 12th june due to singala being closed. however was very nice of the singala to reopen on the 11th so we could have a cold beer on the way back to apartments brian & annette

La Singala

As you will see from my earlier posts we stayed in La Singala last week. Now back home and able to take stock. We are both agreed that last week was one of our best ever visits to PP, despite getting off to a bad start at Oro Playa.
Oro Playa is depressingly grim - it needs an immediate and total refurbishment - the apartments were worn out, with cracked and chipped tiling in the bathroom areas. Silvering on the mirror peeling off. Polystyrene ceiling tiles broken, blackened and loose. Beds past their sell by date, possibly with 'dunlopillo' matresses that were in the late stages of decay. I'll not go on - too depressing.:mad:AVOID!!!!!
The one sunny ray from this gloomy life event was a walk across the road to search for alternative accomodation - La Singala!!
La Singala was wonderful - Josep, Manuel and all the staff were first class hosts. :)The whole of the hotel was faultless. Exceptionally clean and in top decorative condition.
No wonder our Scottish members effectively kept it to themselves over previous years. All those nights we walked past on the way to our eyewateringly expensive Illa D'Or beds ( well, a few nights)... I can see now why the La Singala residents smiled and raised their glasses as we passed.
Current prices(in Euros, per night per person) for June 40, July 42, Aug 40, Oct 27, Nov 22, based on twin room with balcony.

Josep is not taking bookings for next year just yet. When (not if) the sale of of the hotel goes through in the coming month or two and the future is assured he will start taking 2011 bookings. This seems sensible!

The 'Food Trail' for our week in the Port will shortly be put in the Restaurant section.

Does anyone know if the 'new' Sis Pins is offering a discount on evening meals to residents, as was available in the past?
