Smoking Ban ????

If this smoking ban is taken seriously, as it sounds like it might be, my trips to PP are going to take on a whole new dimension. Many more night time venues are suddenly on my radar!!

Thought it wouldn't affect you BL! To someone used to lighting Havanas with 50 euro notes, what's a paltry 30, pfft!
 
Nick - certainly with you there re hoping Nostalgia is smoke free, as everywhere else obviously! Have never found the air extractors effective enough to draw away smoke. Will be staying for extra drinks after meals from now on I'm sure.
And as for you BL - let me help you with that spending dilema!;)
 
Smoking Ban

Bring on the Ban - it will make life so much more pleasant when non-smokers and children do not have to breathe in the acrid smoke caued by people smoking. Bars and Restaurants will not close down because of the smoking ban - high and exhorbitant prices close bars and restaurants,

You may well find that "non smokers" will be spending more of their eating and drinking time sitting inside bars and restaurants because the sunny terraces will be full of smoking locals, who would always have been inside before the ban ;);)
 
You can always sort out which tables are "down wind"! And the airconditioning works SO much better outside!
 
I found exactly that sitting outside as I do here in England, I ended up sitting with the smokers, but yes at least out side it is dispersed and you can get away from the smoke.
Lets not forget this is a serious matter and why this is being introduced, it is to protect the health of the workers in pubs and restaurants who are exposed to dangerous levels of smoke on a daily basis, they have no option but to breath in other peoples smoke.
 
SWS, Very true, this was the principal reason it was banned, the laws now being enforced make it healthier for everyone. There has been some changes over the years, , i remember being in hospital years ago and people were allowed to smoke in the wards:eek:
 
I for one am glad that the smoking ban has arrived in Majorca so my wife & children do not have to breath in other peoples smoke, though I must admit over the last couple of years in PP, I have not really noticed that many people smoking in restaurants anyway.
 
Well said sws. There is incontrovertible evidence that smoking kills both active and passive smokers.

Has anyone else seen the ads in this page for smokers match? Now that's what I call targeted advertising.!

So how's the ban going, as a smoker my hubby and daughter hate it, when in PP I am sent outside and away from the table if we are eating, she won't even walk near me if I'm smoking on a dander along the Pine Walk, do you think they're trying to tell me something? So the ban isn't really going to change things for me, and my Hubby and daughter will be very happy.
 
Certainly the smoking ban in Scotland has been oe of the best things to hit our country. Despite initial opposition it has been a 100% success and is widely acclaimed.

I have no doubt that it will be the same in Spain.

as a smoker from scotland who visits the port every year i thought there was a smoking ban and always go outside for a ciggie as i do in scotland would never think of smoking in a bar or restuartnt now
 
I agree with both Rab and Munro's comments above.
As an ex-heavy-smoker, I'm delighted at the transformation of both attitudes of smokers and atmosphere in pubs/clubs in general, as a result of the smoking ban in Scotland. Initial objections and resistance have subsided and everyone accepts that smoking is an outside activity.
I also remember a trip to Dublin on business just as the smoking ban was introduced there who moaned all the way from the airport to the city centre that it would be ignored. Last year, on a trip to Dublin I found that the same acceptance and behaviour had developed there in pubs and clubs.
Let's hope the same acceptance occurs in Spain and social behaviour modifies in the same way.
I'm happy to allow those who choose to smoke to do so, but also happy that the default is a no-smoking environment in enclosed, public places.

SMOKING BAN or maybe NOT

There is an interesting article in todays Daily Bulletin about smoking clubs being set up in designated areas in Bars and Restaurants in Mallorca.
Aparantly about 30 to 40 bar and restaurant owners are signing up daily to promote this new scheme to overcome the ban.

Have a look at the D.B. article - a bit laughable really.
Drink orders by microphone.... service by revolving platform..... dubious to say the least.
By the way, very impressed by our Scottish brethren who, seem to have taken to the inside smoking ban like ducks to water. Well done Smiddy, Rab, etc.
As always, given time things will sort themselves out for the best.
