Smoking Ban

I think a lot of people seem to forget that Majorca actually banned smoking BEFORE the UK countries, it's just that it was not adhered to/ignored. I'm a bit amused at the hysteria the latest, "we're very, very serious this time ban" has caused in Spain. The year has but started and all sorts of clandestine operations are being hatched. Why don't they give it till after the summer before making claims about empty bars etc, you never know they may be pleasantly surprised.

I've just returned from a 5 day break to PP and saw no-one flouting the law on smoking. It was just so nice to be able to sit inside with a beer and have a drink while not breathing in poisonous fumes and having my eyes streaming and clothes reeking of fags.

I hope that anyone flouting the ban is heavily dealt with.

The Spanish/anyone else will soon get used to it and they are fortunate enough to live in such a pleasant climate that a couple of minutes outside to smoke will not harm them too much!

I use Nostalgia bar a lot and Colin and Michalea have invested in a snazzy state-of-the-art sensor controlled heater so the poor smokers will be cosy while they pollute only themselves!!!

And of course looking at some of the other eateries, be careful what you wish for in an expansion of dining habits!:eek:
 
Excellent...............you also need to read some of the signs indicated to the right of this one. Very funny....
 
Really don,t mind not smoking as like to keep the family happy. if they have a good time on hols then I'm happy even if it means no ciigs done it before in Californian for 4 weeks so may try again,!
 
I am a smoker myself but I have always been adverse to smoking inside restaurants and bars. Even before the ban came in in the UK I would usually wait to after a meal and then go outside. As I smoker I still do not want smoke blowing near me when I am eating a meal and therefore I wouldn't not expect others to suffer the same.

When we went to PP (after the ban in the UK had been introduced) the though of smoking inside a bar or restaurant because I could never crossed my mind!

We stay in the Flora and last year when we were having drinks in the bar, I would go outside to have a cigarette. Rashid who works behind the bar at the Flora asked me why I kept getting up and going outside and when I said that I was going to smoke he looked at me a little confused and said why didn't I just smoke inside!

Just can't do it, it never feels right!

Feel likewise just normal not smoking near the family you should have heard my mother when people started smoking when she was trying to enjoy her meal. I completely understand and would never do it.
 
Who would smoke within breathing distance of another human being?
 
I found it funny when in a well known restaurant no names in the port the no smoking sign was held up by the ashtray on the table.
 
Hi, If anyone doubt's the severity on those ignoring the ban you need look no further than the case that has just gone through the spanish court. A bar owner on the mainland said that as he owned the property as far as he was concerned it was his house and he was inviting people in so they could smoke if they wanted to.The courts verdict was to fine him 150,000 euros (and no that is not a misprint). they also closed him down removing his licence so that he can no longer trade. How many of you know that as well as no smoking in bars & restaurants you are also not allowed to smoke within 250 mtrs of a school or a park area where children play, and thats in the open!!!.
 
Will that mean the square will be smoke free, the square does have bushes and trees and children playing? Probably not classed as apark though.

Agree totally Mark but lets not forgot the drinks cans, plastic bottles, orange peel, banana skins, apple cores, sweet wrappers, chewing gum and all the other litter left behind by thoughtless, lazy people. It is not just smokers who pollute the environment :rolleyes:.

Interesting argument, Pollensafan

Presumably you disagreed with the B & B owner here in the UK who banned gays on the similar premise that it was his house and he could discriminate just as he wanted ???

Hear, Hear . Was in India in Nov and ran the chance of a beating by a cop for smoking in the streets ( it's illegal in most states ) but you could tip as much s**t or rubbish there as you liked.

As for the States , been spat at for smoking on the streets of New York . Banning it on beaches , what next ?? Just hope Barrack and Hillary don't take their vacations there , both being avid smokers !!!!

Lighten up ( excuse the pun ) Guys . The base intolerance of anti smokers is getting just a tedious bit too much for some of us smokers. Most of us know how to enjoy what we do without offending others .

WE like to get our little niggles off our chests now and again. :p

We just need to educate the rest who are not so caring :rolleyes:
