Hi Everyone,
Some of you may already know this but Toni and I volunteer for and help run Cat Protection Pollensa, a small animal welfare association covering Pollensa, PP and CSV.
We'll post details about the organisation and what we do and why we got involved another time however we urgently wanted to make people aware of the situation that we are currently dealing with in Ave Paris as it is an area many of you know well and you may even know the specific colony and cats that that we are talking about.
Below is the text and a link to video that has been put on social media.
URGENT WARNING. SOMEONE IS TRYING TO POISON THE AVINGUDA PARÍS CAT COLONY AND A VOLUNTEER HAS BEEN INJURED
This is the post we never wanted to write.
The Avinguda París colony - the friendly, gentle cats so many of you greet, pet, photograph, and love - is under attack.
Someone is deliberately targeting them and now a human has been harmed too.
Over recent weeks, a person has been carrying out escalating acts of cruelty:
• Feeding bowls stolen again and again
• Security padlocks cut clean through
• A feeding station tampered with
• A toxic chemical poured into the cats’ food
Today, this situation crossed a line.
A volunteer - someone who gives her time freely to care for these cats - touched a bowl to clean it and a chemical burned her hand instantly! We believe someone had filled the bowls with drain cleaner.
These cats are already stressed, displaced, and confused as we carefully relocate them under Town Hall instruction. They have lost their safe home. They rely on us - and on you - more than ever. And in the middle of all this, someone chose to inflict more suffering.
This isn't just cruelty, this is a crime, and now it’s a crime that has hurt a person.
If a child had touched that bowl, the injury could have been life-changing.
The Guardia Civil have already photographed the scene and opened a file, and will be increasing patrols along with the local police.
We need the community’s eyes.
If you have seen anything suspicious please contact us privately or make a report to the Guardia Civil. Your information could stop the next attack.
These cats belong to all of us.
They are harmless. They are loved. They did nothing to deserve this.
Let's protect them. Let's protect the people who care for them. And let’s make sure whoever did this is found before someone else gets hurt.
