Hi returning to Puerto Pollensa after a long absence and really looking forward to it. Has anyone any experience of Special Assistance at Palma Airport. Thanks.

This was "fixed" in the late eighties and early nineties (in particular the issue of the wheel chairs and the "jardineras" to take you to the plane). Fernando Sarmentero was the "Delegado" of the airport in those days

I used it only last week following major knee surgery. It was really great - we pre booked it via our airline (Easyjet). After checking in we went to the Special Assistance area - we were met almost immediately by a lovely chap with a wheelchair, who took me and the rest of the family through a dedicated check-in - must have been the fastest trip through security ever! They had canes and additional human helpers available at every stage had I needed it to get through the scanner etc. Rather than going to the gate in a buggy he actually wheeled me all the way through the airport - helped with our luggage too (stupidly we'd each bought a cabin bag, which given that I was not going to be able to wheel it myself was a mistake). Someone else took over at the gate - for some reason (presumably health and safety) they insisted that I go right up to the plane door in a wheelchair even though I could walk short distances - but that was fine by me! So I can thoroughly recommend the service.
