We love having a late lunch on terrace at Stay and visit the restaurant about 10/12 times a year. But yesterday a large group of customers at next table and started smoking. I was about to give them a piece of my mind but noticed ashtrays on the table. B
Ring a very still afternoon their smoke took ages to clear and although it didn't ruin lunch it took away the normal pleasurable experience.
I later spoke with one of the senior waiters who said it was management decision which the staff were not happy about.
For me, the smoking restrictions arising from COVID regulations finally meant enjoying Al fresco dining without smoke.
Most other restaurants in the port appear to still maintain a no smoking on terraces policy. Not sure why Stay have made this decision.

That’s very disappointing to hear. I can’t imagine why they chose to do something that would obviously be unpopular with a large number of their diners. I’m pleased to say in two recent visits we never saw that, but it’s a very bad idea.

There is no smoke without ire!!. Sorry I am a nuisance cigar smoker. One plus, no tips and totally biodegradable. The cigars not me. I degraded years ago. Feel like I've been done like a kipper.

Much prefer having a smoke free experience myself, indoors and outdoors, but can't see how they can enforce it for the terraces, when it's no longer a legal requirement.
Might be worth e-mailing the Stay and telling them about your disappointment.
Doubt they'll want to go through the hassle of setting up smoking areas on the terrace.
