Daughter and boyfriend wish to know if there is an area where they can actually surf - as on board surfing. Anyone know anywhere? Have a memory of someone mentioning CSV?

Have never seen anyone surfing in CSV as the sea is usually like a mill pond. Even after a storm when the waves are crashing in I think it would be impossible and far too dangerous. When the sea is rough they always have a red flag flying so no one is allowed in the water even if they wanted to give it a go.

The only place I've know where there are usually good waves is Cala Mesquida, but when we've been I've have never seen anyone surfing on boards.Plenty of body surfers 'tho....and as part of the beach has a nudist section it is quite an interesting sight to behold!!!

Thanks for the info both of you. The sites are great smg. Will be passing those on. Looks like its more of a local sport as you just have to be there on the day and be lucky, but it may well help them decide when to go. Thanks again.

Just some background info on surfing, Majorca can get as much surf as anywhere else, but to have proper surf you need to have low pressure, most of us visit in the summer months when we only have high pressure. Low pressure system track across oceans producing waves as they go, so you need these conditions in the Med to achieve this, hence it only happens occasionally, the surfing season in the northern hemisphere runs through the winter. As for red flags that is the best time to go surfing, normally the life guards red flag the beach so they can go surfing, 99% of life guards are surfers.

Some nice swell today if you are lucky enough to be over, nice lines coming in at Son Serra de Marina and the Playa de Muro, some lucky people in surfing, very envious! :)

we have surfed at Cala Mesquida 2 years ago early March, some decent civilised waves

Just looking at there up towards the end of Alcuduia? Difficult to get to?

No its further along isn't it, 6ft and 9 seconds at the moment!!!

Cala Mesquida is well worth a visit whether you are a surfer or not. Definitely not a Brit resort but great for a day? I would recommend taking a picnic as the beach restaurant is typically fast food( and German style). The beach is vast and the waves come in at an angle on one side which give a wave machine effect. Great fun to swim in on :) If you are of a modest nature stay at the wave end of the beach as towards the dunes are where the nudists hang out...literally :eek:
