swimming pool
Hi there
I was in the swimming pool yesterday, so a brief update. You buy the swimming hats (2 euros) at the sports centre next door. Water isn't being heated at the moment so be prepared for a bracing experience! There is a small pool for young children as well as the bigger pool, and also a chair lift by the side of the big pool to allow disabled people to submerge.
The facilities are still rather basic, I get the feeling it's not quite finished but has been opened to silence critics. The changing rooms are communal (well they have one for men and one for women but otherwise no privacy), they have communal showers within them which weren't working when I was there. No mirrors or hair dryers.
I read in the local paper that it is being manned by volunteers, so apparently the council have still not awarded a contract to anyone to run the place. It was a young man acting as lifeguard (I know they all look young to me, but I figured he was possibly a student).
But I had a good refreshing swim, and at just past 7pm it was fairly quiet.
To answer the other question, the sports centre is open to anyone and has facilities for football, tennis, squash and basketball, table tennis and table football (you know where you twist the handles), there's a cafe and small kids play-park. It's cheap to use, so is the cafe which is popular with locals
