If in doubt just wear the extra cardi you only need pop it on to actually get on the plane after which you can take it off. As I may have posted before my travel mates have nick named me Heidi after observing my layers of clothing on some flights. Also if your hand luggage bag expands wider than the allowable depth you can always add your cardi after you get onto the plane rather than have to carry it around
