REVIEW: Tribeka May 2010

Hi Maureen and Kenny have opened up a bistro at Fletchers, C/La Gola (street beside Burger King). Food is excellent and very reasonably priced.

Interestingly some very mixed reviews on Tribeca! What seems quite clear is the staff appear to be quite rude to say the least. Going from their price structure, is this a gimmick or are they struggling a bit for customers? There's a lot of competition out there, and the ones who will survive are the ones who attract repeat visits. What restaurants like this have got to appreciate is that customer they are rude to could be a regular visitor/apartment owner, possibly 3 holidays a year, 2 nights a week, anything from 2 to 4 diners, that's quite a bit of business to lose. Perhaps the lady in question could do with a bit of re-training? Not to mention the bad reviews posted on this site, i know i would not risk being on the receiving end of that sort of treatment.

Thanks for the info, we will definately seek out Kenny & maureens new bistro, we went to ribeca 2 years running and had excellent service and food from Kenny and Maureen, they were great hosts. seems like Tribeca suffering from there departure !!!

Even in the current climate, some restaurants have lost sight of the bigger picture and forget that customers are an essential part of their business!

The sort of thing described above at Tribeka shows a kind of arrogance that is borne out of the attitude that the restaurant knows what it is doing and knows the best way to prepare food - and no one should question that. It is astonishingly stupid and (as others have said above) is certain to ensure customers subjected to that treatment will never return. I must say I haven't had an experience like that for several years in the Pollensa area. I haven't been to Tribeka since the 1990s, and I have no plans to change that...

Tribeca

The last time I ate in Tribeca was September 2006- and swore then to never return. On entering we were ordered our drinks and then waited 20 minutes for someone to take our food order. Still pleasant and going along with the 'manyana' holiday feeling we waited patiently for our starters. Another 40 minutes passed before they arrived. The starters were fine- but only 'fine'. The table was cleared and we waited another 50 minutes before enquiring about the status of our order. The waitress was rude and seem to take great personal offense at our enquiry. 15 minutes later our food arrived- and it was awful. I had ordered lamb, it was overdone and inedible. Politely we informed the waitress of our complaint and commented on the hour we waited for our main course. Her reply was 'if we had wanted fast food we should have went to McDonalds'.

We promptly requested the bill for the food we had eaten, paid and left. I have eaten in many great restaurants and never have I come across such poor customer service, rudeness and inefficiency.

I have read the reviews on the forum and I am pleased to know I am not alone.

Honestly, the McDonalds insult would embaress even Basil Fawlty!

Sounds like there is one member of staff who requires training and "support" in customer service! Management should get a grip and be more visible to sort this out.
It is amazing the difference one person can make, good or bad.

Adios

We had a meal in Tribeca during our recent two weeks in PP. We will not be going back, not so much a complaint about the quality of food, rather about the quantity. My granddaughter had Ravioli alla Carbonara which I think cost 11.90 there was very little ravioli on her plate mostly sauce. My husband Pork in Pepper sauce which he says although the pork was fine, the presentation and the Burger King style of chips was a great let down. I only had a burger, but again same style of chips. With 2 waters and 1 coke the bill came to round about 50 euros, with all the great restaurants in PP, this was the only one where we said we would not go back to as it was certainly not value for money. BTW we did have the bread and ali oli.:(

I have been meaning to get round to reviewing our 13 night stay during May/June, & will post a proper one in due course, but felt the need to contribute to this thread, particularly in view of the glowing comments early on.

We have been there on & off over the years, always with good memories, so were very disappointed in 2010 by off service, so-so food, poor ambience, & not great vfm at a time where most other places seem to be trying very hard to please.

Think this was prob the worst meal of our hol - not dreadful, just disappointing compared to previous years, but we won't be going back, particularly as there are so many other well-reviewed places that we haven't tried yet, as well as others one could return to 2/3 times in a trip, enjoy a superior experience, AND be made welcome

I think summersun has got the wrong restaurant. Tribeca do not do Ravioli Carbonara, Burgers, Pork in pepper sauce, chips or Allioli. Could be Tiberi, Trios, Tangos or any other beginning with T.

Apologies, you are correct, the restaurant we visited was Tiberi.:)

Doesn't change the fact that Tribeca have a serious PR problem! On their blackboard outside they request you to "Tell your friends". What? Go in, there's a 50% chance you will be insulted!

Thankyou Smiddy- this is the first time I've laughed about that experience four years ago due to your witty repartee! I was there with my mum and dad, husband and 2 year old son. Having to try to explain to a two year old that dinner isn't ready yet after two hours and then why we are leaving without eating was bad enough but to be insulted was the icing on the cake- Tell your friends it's not worth the risk!

Thanks again for making me smile! :D

For the sake of balance, my son is over in PP at the moment, he called last night (must be running out of money) and said they had been in Tribeca the previous night and had a lovely meal.

Honestly, the McDonalds insult would embaress even Basil Fawlty!

The reason i used this quote as it reminded me of a story Bob McCallum (of McCallum's, on the front) told me. As a student he actualy worked in the hotel on which the idea of Fawlty Towers was formed. One day he was serving and a Austrain chap refused, on religous grounds the pork chops being offered for dinner, he duly took them back to the kitchen, explained the customer refused to eat it, to which the owner bellowed at the top of his voice "Well tell him there's a ****** fish and chip shop down the road":D

What can you say? Here we are some 40 years later and the spirit lives on!:)
