I am planning a visit to Majorca next April and wondered if anyone could give me info on walks?
What books to buy and whether you need any special equipment?
I've never been to Majorca before so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Pollensa

Would Rich Strutt be the tall guy who used to work for Globespan a few years ago?

I remember one of their people who was in to walking.

Thank you for all the help. If we don't join the group does anyone know if there are easy trails to follow?

If you buy one of the Walking Books, the most up-to-date is Walk! Mallorca (North & Mountains) with its accompanying very detailed map (Tour & Trail), you will find plenty of walks to follow. It is an excellent book & even has GPS grid references. However none of these are signposted on the actual paths as in the UK, you need to use a map & follow the directions.

The simplest local ones include the one to the Boquer Valley from Puerto Pollensa & from Pollensa town up the Puig de Maria to the monastery. The one to from PP to Cala San Vicente is currently cut off although some forum members have ventured through the private land.

Why don't you buy the book & map, have a look & then ask more questions if you are not sure.

Ella a really nice wee walk is from lluc to Pollensa (5-6 hours). you'll find it in the Walk Mallorca book. I've used it as a means of escape from the area after a climb (lack of buses), there are also lots of mini walks around Lluc which would allow you to catch the afternoon bus back to PP.
I rant on about this book and just can't recomend their books enough, there is so much detailed information you just can't go wrong. why on earth do I now wish I hadn't just said that!. I can just bet someone will write on here that they followed one of the books routes and got lost:eek .

Trust me Ella, if you buy only one book make it this one, Oh and buy the map it's the best I've seen for the area.

Happy hiking.

hi Rob
Thanks for your message. I will try and get the book before I go. I have read your posts on this section and it sounds like you love walking, like me.
Just about decided where we will stay in Majorca. Puerto Pollensa is the favorite at the moment but might go further south.

Going futher South would be your first big mistake. There also some nice walks in PP and around.

They may well have it at the newsagent in PP (on the Formentor Road, between the central square & the front) - just no guarantee. Have a great trip.

Debilicious,
I found the book in a bookstore in old Pollensa town. In fact, I saw it in a number of places. You shouldn't have trouble finding it.
Enjoy,
Hiker

There is a good walking shop next to the large bit of waste ground come carpark next to Juniors bar a few streets back from the square. You'll find a good selection of books and equipment there.
Take care.
