We got back home last night after dinner to find that our automatic sprinkler had burst into life even though it was switched to the off position. It was a Hoselock type and it was continually cycling between on and off. Fortunately we were in Mallorca but if we had been in the UK this would have meant that it would have been on continuously with obvious consequences to water bills and plants.
We had a similar problem with the same type of sprinkler two years ago.
I would suggest that if you have this type of sprinkler then you remove the batteries when it is not needed, or better still, fit an isolating valve so that the water supply can be shut off.
