Having left Pollensa town for the Port, we were joined for our second week by both my sisters and their families plus by eldest daughter. (Middle sister actually met her husband in PP in 1992 when she was on holiday and he was the Rep but that’s another story!). Meals out ranged from 3 to 13 people so I apologise in advance as some of the menu and price detail is a bit vague.
Laroc–Saturday–Table for 9. We had hoped for Little Italy but could not get a table when we tried to book earlier in the day. However, Laroc did not disappoint and I always find the service here very good and staff friendly. Bread, alioli, olives meant we could do without starters. Mains were a mixture of penne arabiatta, spinach ravioli, spag bol and pizzas plus a lovely mixed salad. Together with Marques de Caceres rosado, small jug of sangria, water, soft drinks and coffees, my bill for 5 was €76.70. Dessert for the children was ice-cream from the helado hut, as we call it, and we did this most evenings which helped cut down on cost. Dessert for me was a large vodka and orange at Bonys (€5.50) followed by dancing in the square to the excellent group. Daughters sent me home to bed while they headed off to the beach party. A great night.
Guru-Sunday-Table for 13. I really like Guru but unfortunately on this occasion the service was extremely slow. I know we were a large group, but I heard others complaining too. Slow service doesn’t usually bother me on holiday, but as it was the evening of the parade and fireworks we were in more of a rush than usual. However, once the food came it really was good and I think my dish of chicken stuffed with roast vegetables with potato au gratin was possibly my favourite meal of the week. I was also told that the chicken with pear and almond sauce was very good, as was the pasta with veal and the ravioli. We drank Mortix tinto and rosado at (I think) €16.50 per bottle. With the usual bread olives etc, drinks, mains for 5 and coffees €75.
Brisa Marina-Monday-Table for 3. Another one I had been keen to try. Only 3 of us and we all opted for MDDs because the choice was so good. Starters of 2 soup, 1 spag bol, mains of John Dory, pork escallops and chicken in pepper sauce, desserts of home made ice-cream, crème catalan and crème caramel. The food seemed freshly cooked and everyone ate their meal, the fish being the best choice, but in my opinion plain and simple would at best describe our meal. And I can drink most wines, but the house rosado was pretty grim. The service was great though, and our waiter was lovely so I would go again, but maybe order from the a la carte. With coffee the bill came to €47.90.
Ca N’Olesa-Tuesday-Table for 13. Back to the old town. As it was my friend’s birthday, all of us met for drinks at my sister’s villa in Pollensa. She had earlier tried to book a table and Ca N’Olesa was the only place able to accommodate us close to the square, where the children like to wander and mix with others after their meal. It was very hot and the atmosphere in the square was buzzing that night. I had brought a birthday cake from Las Delicas and after the obligatory singing and candles, the waitress kindly took the cake from me and served it to each of us beautifully dressed with chocolate and strawberry sauce. I thought that was a lovely touch. Most of us ate or shared pizza’s which were really good, and the pork with tumbet was also declared a good choice. For the usual food, drinks and wine my contribution for 5 was €90. Service excellent.
Nicos-Wednedsay-Table for 5. Kids love it here. We had 3 MDD at €13.95 including wine. Starters of chilli con carne, main of chicken enchilada and wild rice and any dessert from the menu. The food was fresh and tasty and the bottle of wine included in the price wasn’t bad either. 2 chicken Maoa burgers plus coffees, soft drinks and frozen snapps total bill €67.85. Good value in my opinion.
Bar Coral-Thursday-Table for 9. My sister’s family love Bar Coral and tonight was their choice. The menu is fairly traditional but the food is beautifully cooked and the service excellent. Bread,olives,alioli, 2 sole, 3 chicken, 1 pork all with tumbet which is really good here, 2 spag bol and a kids menu. 2 Marques de Caceres Rosado, 4 coffees and 2 desserts of truffle selection to share (children had headed off for ice cream). Approx €85 for my 5. Nice relaxing atmosphere and good food.
Marina Café-Friday-Table for 4. We had enjoyed coffee and juice here and used the wifi on a few occasions. Tired from a late night and early start to see my daughter off, we decided on a snack tea here straight from the beach. Bad decision. Panini, burger, pizza and omelette all served within 5 minutes of ordering, all very bland and in my opinion straight from the freezer to microwave to the table. With 2 glasses wine and soft drinks bill was €30.75. Good for coffee and drinks, but wouldn’t eat here again.
Ca'n Josep-Saturday-Table for 4. We had planned to try Ca'n Josep in the evening following the recommendations on the forum, but we didn’t make it. However, with the luggage in storage and a few hours left we headed down for lunch which we really enjoyed. The food and service were excellent and the views from the restaurant are fab. We had house rosado, 2 pa amb oli, Spanish omelette and roast chicken from the lunch snack menu. We finished off by sharing apple pie and chocolate cake, both of which were homemade and delicious. Bill €54.05. We will definitely be back here.
For anyone who has made it to the end without falling asleep, that’s it! Can’t believe we didn’t get to O’lume or El Posito, but will definitely visit them in October. Can’t wait
