What do you miss?

As i reported in my diary on the Tapas Bar my daughter in law was well impressed with the Mojitos made by Lee in Nostalgia.

He owes me big time as last time I went he didn't have all the ingredients to make one! I will definately be checking up on him this time tell him!

Also miss Tots ..... used to be a favourite of ours abourt 15 years ago ...... have great memories of daughter tucking into Juans Spag bol before she could even walk

And another thing ..... the fantastic shop that is now BHI ..... where the webcam is .................. it had lots of interesting things in it but the weirest thing I found in there was a painting of Arighi Bianchi .................. which for those who won;t know is a great furnature shop in Macclesfield , Cheshire ............ now what is a painting like that doing in a place like that ????

I miss the shop where Bernard Hamilton now is bought some nice bits in there over the years to bring home

We miss the kitchen/hardware shop where Nico's is now, over the years we bought a few condiment sets (cheaper than the market), you could buy spare lids and bottles for them as well. We also bought tapas forks and other cutlery there which we ended up bringing back out when we moved here .

I also miss the little chocolate/pastry shop on the formentor road XOCOLAT it disappeared about 2/3 years ago when tango went for the new building. It was a tradition of ours to always go after market and have a huge meringue and coffee. The coffee was fabulous and they made sandwiches to order also.
I frequently stopped in on our way back from the beach to buy some treats to have later with coffee. Lovely memories !!!

For those of you who miss the home furnishings shop where BHI now is should go and have a look in the little shop on the little roundabout where Comfort is - she has some really inteeresting stuff in there - very stylish.

I miss the shop that's now BHI too - there is a similar shop on the same street as Hells Kitchen on the opposite side, can't remember it's name sorry. It doesn't have furniture (I don't think) but knick knacks, paintings, ornaments and other 'spanish' treasures. Worth a little look.

I miss the sense of style PP had (fashion) when i first visited over 20 years ago, this has been eroded by a more ,er, casual approach during the preceding years!

Although i must say during my recent visit 10/6-8/7, i did notice a welcome return, people seemed a lot more dressed-up for their evenings, some of the ladies dresses were stunning, at least something i missed seems to be returning.

Wear what you want folks, but i'm firmly in the camp that making a effort to look smart gives PP back the class she always displays

I miss the little old man who used to be in the hardware shop in the square. He was lovely and hopefully retired now. Can't think how many keys he cut for us over the years! He had very little English and us very little Spanish but we communicated well. He always knew just what we wanted or needed and would suggest using a form of makaton lol. Brilliant man. Do hope he is fit and well.

When the old harware shop closed to become part of Tiberi, he moved the business to a new location, just behind the petrol station. He's retired now, but still owns the shop, which is run by a lovely British girl called Becky.

Same great service and prices.... Plus she speaks pretty good English!

That goes for me too, we drove through Newquay earlier today and all I could say to hubby was 'its not PP is it'

Shame is that 30 odd years ago whilst Newquay was still not PP it was nice

It is a place with everything going for it but somehow it has been allowed to become marred by some of the people who visit and I guess f\ilure to act by those who could have nipped the changes in the bud as they happened ( oh so slowly )

Now to get back on thread, I have just remembered something else I miss ................. the wreck on the sandy beach ....... I remember how excited my daughter was the first year we allowed her to swim out to it on her own instead of being towed there on an airbed/ small boat ............... for us it was a fixture of PP, it also attracted lots of fish and made for great snorkling, especially on the side facing away from shore

CD when we were in PP last week Malc and I were talking about the wreck and what fun it used to be to swim out to with the children when they were little. How many years ago was that??!! Happy days!

I also miss Caprabo , the kayak man operating from up at the military base, Bony's when it was a creparie and the beachside patio that used to belong to the ~Bahia ...... I know it was illegal and couldn't be rebuilt but I did like it there

Sorry cd I meant to post this yesterday! Bahia has rebuilt the beachside patio It's a very smart decked area which though not quite as big as before still a lovely setting for a meal or cocktail. And yes it was illegal so not sure how they got the go ahead to build it again!!

Favie - I agree with your sentiment and whole heartedly concure and for others and I am sure that Newquay is a lovely place (think I went there once) but can we keep this relevant to PP please.

Not having been to Newquay or many other places I cannot comment on what I miss there!

Glad you seen this again Debs....i have been desperate to tell CD.
They built it while we were there ....one minute nothing, then, hey presto there it was, just completing it in what seemed like no time at all....and very smart it is too in one of the most wonderful spots.....enjoy Cd!!

Becky Smith we have known for years! Really lovely girl She sings at the Anchor and Palms I think Tuesday and Friday but not that sure of the nights. She has the most super of voices and sings very similar to katie meluar in my opinion. Also had a part years ago in mona Lisa and All creatures Great and Small. She has 2 young children and like many, is just trying to survive. As Baron Says - a lovely girl.
