COACH DRIVERS STRIKE IS OFF!! The strike by coach drivers planned for 21 and 22 July, which could have resulted to flight cancellations in addition to difficulties with airport transfers in Mallorca has been called off following agreement on salaries and conditions at the Balearics arbitration service. Ok. Everyone can breathe a little easier.

Does this latest news mean that these guys are now been paid for the three months wages that they are owed??
I sincerely hope so....a holiday being in jeopardy is one thing but your daily bread and butter is another!! How the heck have they been surviving??

The transport strike discretionary, which threatened the holidays of thousands of tourists in the Islands on 21 and 22 July, was called off last night after two days of intense negotiations the TAMIB.
Employers and unions relocks the signing of the agreement which runs until 2013, basically maintaining the text of previous Convention 2010, and with a wage increase of 1%. The agreement signed last night affect about 3,000 workers of the Islands, 80 percent of whom are fixed discontinuous.
Satisfaction
Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the agreement that would have affected more than 300,000 tourists in the Islands.
The discretionary pool of transport, Rafael Roig, President told this newspaper that he was very satisfied with the agreement reached "in a few moments of great difficulty for the economy of the country", said.
The Secretary of Trade Union action of use, Francisco Melgajero, for his part, indicated that trade unions had made a great effort to avoid the strike, especially taking into account that they had already accepted a wage restraint in the previous Convention.

No Favie there were 2 separate strikes the one which has been called off was planned for 21st/22nd July and this was the "private" coach drivers.
The strike planned for 16th/17th July is the "public" bus drivers and it's these poor souls who are owed 3 months wages

On our recent visit - only 10 days ago, though seems an age - we declined the wait at Record and decided to use public transport and taxis. I must say the drivers of both the local buses and taxis were most helpful and professional. Particularly the buses, as they had to supervise the bun fight to load their passengers on the run to and from the Sunday market at Pollensa.
I wonder if our clippies back home would have such an positive attitude if they hadn't been paid for 3 months!

Police are fining unlicensed sellers on north Majorcan beaches
Local Police in towns and villages along the coast in the north of the island were out and about across the beaches yesterday, keeping a lookout for - and cracking down on - illegal itinerant sellers.
The operation, lasting an hour, was carried out simultaneously on beaches known to be targeted by people peddling their wares without a licence - items of clothing, fruit, belts, handbags, sunglasses, are the goods most frequently offered to the public.
The police units involved in yesterday’s crackdown (Pollensa, Alcudia, Santa Margalida, Muro, Sa Pobla and Buger)belong to a control hub which coordinates operations in North Majorca. It was the second occasion on which a lookout for illegal traders on beaches across the municipalities had been organised this summer.
There were two plain-clothes officers patrolling the Playa de Muro and one uniformed officer from the Marine division of the Local Police.
From midday onwards, the patrols seized 55 items from a number of illegal traders on this beach alone.

Another forest fire, this time near Algadia, if you look on the webcam at the Auditorium showing the Panoramic view of the harbor of Palma you can see the smoke over the cathedral, this from Ultima Hora. Photos there now as well, looks really bad!
A great fire in the area of the costs of Xorrigo, Algaida, has forced to cut the road to Manacor. According to first impressions, the fire could be of importance.This is not the first fire that occurs during the day today, because the fire has destroyed also a small area of pine forest in the Puig of Son Seguí, fire extinguished about 14 hours.Also, another fire has been reported in the area of Sa Bastida Puig, near the cave of Sa Coa black, which has been controlled at 1 p.m., with an affected area of 0.13 hectares of pine forest.On the other hand, the fire declared yesterday by a late in Son Caliu continued active this morning, and the coast d'en Blanes has rekindled.

Two arrested following a string of five consecutive fires in areas of Llucmajor.
At 1415 hours the first alarm leapt. A fire had just been declared agricultural farm in Granada are among the developments of The Palm and Maioris. The IBANAT and firefighters began fighting the flames, but fifteen minutes later another fire broke out between Son Veri Nou, Cala Blava. The issue began to get ugly, but worse was to come. Another fifteen minutes later a third fire started in the racing circuit Llucmajor, and came perilously close to fuel tanks. The Local Police of the municipality conducted a rapid deployment, but could not prevent the flames will cause damage to the premises. At three o'clock, came the next-and final-blow. The arsonist was moved by car or motorbike on the road again and performed s'Aranjassa. Nearby, Pelat Can a 22 year old guy of 47 and worked with metal and caused a spark another fire. The Seprona of the Civil Guard arrested them later, after the fire burned 8 acres.
