It is reported in todays Daily Telegraph that Ryanair are ending 15 Spanish routes after the Madrid Government doubled departure taxes at state-run airports to help cut its deficit. The airline said it objected to the tax rise (a normal reaction
) and claimed the loss of 11 services out of Madrid and four out of Barcelona would result in a loss of 2.3m passengers and 2000 jobs at Madrid and Barcelona El Prat airports.

Another forest fire!!!!!
This has just been posted on FB, lets hope it's not another fire that was started deliberately

At 12:42 h. Today the emergency management room 112, has received numerous calls reporting a fire in the km2 of the MA-4015, ctra. Manacor far the Coves del Drach (zone Porto Cristo / Porto Colom) in the municipality of Manacor.
This is a forest fire of level 0 and due to the strong force at an early stage of fire have enabled terrestrial and IBANAT aerial, including two helicopters based in Mallorca and Menorca one. It has also given notice to the local police and civil protection of Manacor, Mallorca Fire, Police, National Police Emergency Operations Unit i.
P.S. A stretch of the road is now closed ;_

Forest Fires.
Today's MDPB is about the many fires on the island this year, we know some are deliberate but as this article says some are due to human negligence, please be very careful if you are out and about in the countryside.

PALMA XP Two youths, aged 16 and 19 years, bundled in the early hours of last Sunday Algaida. Between one and five-thirty in the morning caused five fires, several of them in a field that had been converted into a parking lot during the holiday puebl0. The Civil Guard arrested them and charged them also caused another fire last night near the town.
Sources in the Guardia Civil and the Bombers de Mallorca explained that early Saturday morning there was a fire that damaged an area populated by stubble and almond trees in the vicinity of the cooperative Algaida. The next night, while celebrating the festivities, five fires were reported in four different hours.
The Bombers de Mallorca attended a first fire at one-thirty in the morning near a car that had been enabled for those attending the festivities. It was an agricultural area populated by stubble. During the hours after firefighters had to intervene in four other fires, of attempts that failed and were quickly extinguished. However, one of them came to be dangerously close to some of the cars parked in the area.
The Civil Guard arrested the suspects finally fires, which proved to be two 16 and 19. They were accused of arson. The youngest was put 'disposal of the juvenile prosecutor, while the higher must declare in court.
La Guardia Civil ruled, however, that the two young men were related to the wave of severe forest fires that broke out in different parts of Mallorca last week.

JFS The municipality of Pollença strengthened to maximize the number of local police officers during the busiest days of public holiday of the patron, especially the next few days 1 and 2 August. Agents are responsible for controlling the use of glass containers for consumption of alcoholic and non alcoholic roads and public spaces and the use and sale of fireworks, street vending of beverages of any kind and use of water guns among residents and visitors.
In addition, at the last meeting of the local security Pollença, attended by representatives of the Police and Civil Guard, it was decided to be closed to all traffic entrances to the town of Pollensa on August, the traditional day of Alborada. It will also reinforce the presence of the Guardia Civil with members of the Public Safety Unit at headquarters, especially on the night of Aug. 1, and the Civil Guard Traffic controls will intensify alcohol and drug use among drivers.

I wonder if you sometimes are curious about where all the energy comes from that is being consumed here in Mallorca in an ever-increasing rate of mega watts. Yes, you flip the light switch or press a button, but where does the juice actually come from?

July on Majorca has been twice as dry as usual.
Palma.— Palma and Lluc have had just 50 percent of the rainfall expected for the time of year but in the Balearics as a whole, it has been no hotter than average, with some locations in north Majorca being cooler than normal, Maria José Guerrero, the Director of the Balearic Branch of the National Weather Agency (AEMET)said yesterday.
She confirmed that there were only small amounts of rain, accompanied by mud, on four occasions for the whole of the month.Guerrero said that whereas Porto Pi (in Palma)would normally register 6.8 litres per square metre in July, this year there were only 3.5 litres.
She said however that there had been dry stormy conditions on occasions with some particularly strong squalls of wind, including some in Calvia of up to 89 kilometres per hour on 1st July.

Well it seems that Pollensa nearly had a firework display to end the Patrona tonight, 3,000€ had been raised locally for an 8 minute display but because it was left so late in the day, they have not been able to obtain the necessary permits. Therefore it won't happen 
.

I know we think they are an intrusion on our privacy but is it time for the introduction of cameras around areas that need protecting?
Yes it's despicable isn't it
.I think CCTV cameras are going to have to be installed, i know some people say they are an invasion of privacy but i honestly don't have a problem with them, if you are not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about.
