Presentation to Geoff Thomas after 14 years as Church Warden
Pollensa.—When Geoff Thomas decided to retire as Church Warden of the Anglican Congregation of St Andrews in Puerto Pollensa, the Church decided to make a presentation.
On Sunday, during the Communion Service, Church Warden, Mary Payne presented Geoff with a cross and chain.
The congregation had managed to keep the secret of the presentation, and Geoff had no idea that it was going to happen! Geoff has been Church Warden at St. Andrews for 14 years.
He has worked with four Anglican Chaplains in that time in the Port. Speaking after the presentation Geoff said, “It is time to go. Our Church now has a ‘vibrant and young committee’. Our larger electoral role means that we can have a larger committee with more jobs to be done. “Our Church is in a sound position both spiritually and financially. “I have been a member of the congregation from the start, and I want to thank the congregation and the Church Committee for their support and their kindness.” Mike Webster, who was Church Treasurer, will take over from Geoff as Church Warden . “Mike is a great person to take on the role of Church Warden”, said Geoff.
Geoff continues to play a leading role in the Puerto Pollensa community, as the owner of “The Codfatherfish and chip shop.
He continues his love of Liverpool football club, and the Church has not let him go completely as he has become Church Warden Emeritus.

The pedestrianization of the first line of Port de Pollença cost 1.5 million

This is reported in the La peatonalización de la primera línea del Port de Pollença costará 1,5 millones » Part Forana » Noticias » Ultima Hora Mallorca.

Pedestrianization the first line of Port de Pollença cost more than a million and a half euros, according to estimates, operator of the City Council. Participate in funding the Ministry of Tourism, with 600,000 euros, the Consell, which would put about 200,000, and the Consistory, which will take the rest up to the total.
That first line was to peatonalizar Moll was known from the construction of the ring road, half a dozen years ago, but that the City Council intended to tender the project that year was not known until yesterday, and it included a game with that purpose in the budget.
As for the details of the pedestrian, little is known. Roundabout will cover the yacht club to the turning Llenaire, and the initial draft did not provide bike. Turning to finance, 600,000 euros of the Department of Tourism will, for the most part, of a fund with money raised through the regularization of hotel rooms. The part of the Consell is that for the asphalt. Regarding the Consistory, his departure is initially endowed with only 150,000 euros, but "open" the mayor said, and will be completed later.
The pedestrian is the "flagship project" in the words of Encrypt 2013 budget. However, consider other investments, such as improving access to the round of Moll, various improvements in the Museum, in the Cultural Centre and Can Llobera and an excavation at the site of Bóquer. In contrast, the proposed rule moorings in the bay and the payment of 150,000 euros to the architect Rafael Moneo.
Remember that the government team (PP-Lliga) and tried to pass the budget in April, but was unsuccessful. This time, after reaching several agreements with the opposition, budgets were supported Alternative, PSM, Socialist Party and mayor of UMP (and also Convergence, which in April and voted in favor). ERC only rejected them, "Before we looked very poor and now are better, but still insufficient," Miguel Angel Sureda claimed, the mayor independence.

Mmmmm interesting, i wonder if it's a deliberate ploy to get people to pay to read it .

There are technical problems, so I am told. There is a new version of the website that has already been designed and which is a vast improvement. But as to when it will be launched, it is unclear as yet. Later this summer probably.

Let's hope there'll be still a free daily update and it doesn't disappear behind a paywall.

Pedestrianization of the front in PP.

From La semipeatonalización de la primera línea del Moll comienza a cobrar forma en Pollença » Part Forana » Noticias » Ultima Hora Mallorca, translated by Google.

The proposed pedestrianization of the first line of Moll begins to take shape and there are many groups that are positioned in favor or against a work that will undoubtedly, the most important of this legislature.
The City Council of Pollença on Friday expected to approve an amendment to credit to increase by 200,000 euros initially planned budget was € 1,200,000, of which 600,000 euros are paid by the Ministry of Tourism.
Fall
The Ministry of Tourism will be responsible for tendering for works, probably in early autumn, although the design and drafting of the project is provided by the City Council, which has instructed the municipal architect. "For a long time Pollença has lived believing the goose that lays the golden eggs with projects like Moneo, but experience has taught me that or take what there is, or run the risk of running out of anything," says the mayor, Bartomeu Encrypt Ochogavía.
Thus, despite the criticism, Encrypt Ochogavía, commitment semipeatonalización run as contemplated technicians with current financial resources, renouncing or sandstone paving and putting in place asphalt and concrete staining.
The ride will have a bike lane, a single lane for vehicles and a parking area, the latter in the nearest buildings.
The PSM (in opposition) yesterday criticized that "budgetary constraints of the project limited qualities" and asked to be executed in phases in order to devote more resources. Further requests to be exposed to the public during the Fiestas del Carmen to find the broadest possible consensus.

Good to hear - there is only one downside the "Lookey Lookey" men will
expand their area along the front, as they were positioned every 20 paces
along the the front in June.
PP does not need or benefit from these street traders who can't make a
living from cheap Chinese toys/sunglasses so resorting to thieving from us.

As the report states , this will be the most significant activity for the local council during this session, I would therefore have expected much greater detail on the plans to be made available to enable proper consultation with all elements of the local community. Does anybody know if and when this is planned? Is there a website existing with the current suggestions ?Does the municipal architect intend to consult ?

I would like to know what surveys have been carried out . I would have expected traffic flows measured, details collected on who uses the beach road and why, who parks on the coast road and when are service deliveries made to the shops. This may all be sorted but I some how doubt it.

This development has the potential to significantly enhance or damage the PP experience and the comments re ' asphalt and concrete staining ' fill me full of dread.

When is the Fiesta Del Carmen does anyone know ? It sounds like this maybe a significant time.

Hi Chelseadons, here is the link to the council website Benvinguts a Pollença, it's mostly in Catalan but i use Google to translate. I assume at the moment it is still only in the planning stage but hope they do have full consultation with business owners and residents before a final plan is decided.

The Fiesta del Carmen is on now and finishes on Sunday ;).

RE -Road closure. Its like groundhog day. Same old ,same old. I'll believe it when its done and done PROPERLY.:)

Now,I thought the council had no money, that is why some of the trees
along the road have not been pruned for two years or is there a special
EEC fund for road works and not tree maintenance ?:(

It seems that the pedestrianization has yet to be approved by the government and is at least 2 years away, this in today's La semipeatonalización alterna tramos con distintos sentidos de circulación - Diario de Mallorca:-

The first line of Port de Pollença not have a single direction of movement after implantation semipeatonalización project that has the City Council on the table, as had been speculated at first, but alternate sections double direction with others in which circulation is permitted only in sense or meaning Alcúdia Formentor. The reason is a technical explanation and is based on the need to 'pacify' the circulation so that vehicles do not reach high speeds, but also pose a greater problem due to changing mobility habits that will lead the initiative as holding the opposition parties.
semipeatonalización plan working with the City of Pollença contemplates a restructuring project on traffic and other work that, according to the mayor Tomeu Encrypt (PP) shall not prejudice the mobility system, since it convenience may be modified without altering the physical work performed on the boardwalk.
's extraordinary plenary session held yesterday in Pollença credit approved an amendment to increase the resources allocated to semipeatonalización costs 650,000 euros to 150,000 euros incorporated and provided for this item. The municipal EUR 800,000, added to the 600,000 euros to be provided by the Government and 300,000 euros from the Consell, define a project's budget, according to city estimates will not be a reality for another two years. For now, is still waiting to receive the agreement signed with the City Tourism conselleria.
The project includes a vial for the movement of vehicles and another for bikes right next to the beach as well as enabling parking in battery in the side closest to the buildings of the first line. The sidewalk from the end where the buildings are located will be widened to facilitate pedestrian crossing, while the side next to the beach will keep the same amplitude, but will be renewed with a new pavement.
In principle, the maximum speed will be allowed in the ride will be 30 miles per hour. Also, all zebra crossings for pedestrians will be raised to force further limit vehicle speed. Also facilitate access for people with mobility problems and public transport vehicles.
.....and here is a picture of the proposed layout :-

Interesting to see the aerial view with road direction proposals marked on.
If / when these semi-pedestrianisation works take place (I guess they are likely to in time), they will make differences for lots of people in different ways - some for the better some possibly otherwise. The locals will be the ones most affected.
Presently on my visits to PP I like to head for Alcudia at the end of the motorway then have that wonderful drive right around the bay and along the 'sea-front' into PP, rather than come in via Pollenca and 'Eroski'. I leave that one for the return journey to the airport at the end of my stay, the run to the motorway 'completes the circle' as one might say.

It "looks like" the biggest dog's breakfast of a "mixed mode" one way system ever devised! Should we be surprised?!

The "shop-side" parking proposal (and I agree that there is a lack of parking spaces in the off season let alone the height of summer) means that the proposal is little more than a limited widening of the existing narrow pavement at great expense... Hmmmmm.....
