A very helpful forum - everyone seems friendly!
Having been stuck in rural (depressing) France for three years, we are thinking of coming over for the winter and staying in Pollensa (first time on the island).
We are trying to get our head around winter entertainment - dining and bars.
Would I be right in thinking that you have to drive to Alcudia for the "more upmarket" places?
The reason I ask is that it seems to be about 10 miles from Pollensa so a drink is out of the question. Are there taxis in winter and whats the approx cost?
Any advice most welcome!

I am amused by your idea that you have to go to Alcudia for the upmarket places. Hopefully you do not consider Pizzahut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Burgerking etc as upmarket. No - far better to stay in Puerto Pollenca and the old town where according to a list published elsewhere on this site there will be a good selection of bars and restaurants staying open for the winter.

Puerto Pollenca or Pollenca Old Town good choice for spending the winter providing you are not looking for very warm sunshine, although I believe it has been known to surprise at times!! Although I do like France....I think there will be lots more going on than rural France!! Certainly no need to travel to Alcudia....although recommend Alcudia Old Town for a visit, in fact, depending on how long you are there, there are loads of beautiful places to visit on the island....Palma for a City visit and loads of other resorts IF you can drag yourself away from Pollenca!! Lots of lovely property to rent in Pollenca old town/Puerto Pollenca where you could be minutes away from Pubs/Restaurants........enjoy!! Lucky thing. :)
