I am only reporting what has been posted on FB, not seen it myself and as i said please don't shoot the messenger.

No Sparky, just saying surely they are not going to do that now!

I had visions of them doing it with cobbles or something, not tarmac, at a depth of 6" it will be like jelly when it gets hot!
I suppose thinking about it, it would be easy to remove the tarmac if it is just a temporary measure for this year

I think it's just a temporary fix to make it better for the disabled to get about this summer. I have never known the roads to turn to jelly in the heat here, maybe they use a different formula.

As Sparky says, they are only temporary speed bumps / pedestrian crossings along main road and roads leading onto it.

yes I've just passed these. its only in the places where there was a pedestrian crossing its levelled up to kerb height. As previous post says they look like giant speed humps hardly noticeable really

This has just been posted on FB, please don't shoot the messenger ;) :-

Ok, so its just the crossings they are doing, not what the guy originally said doing the whole length of the road, they always said they were going to do the crossings didn't they? Looks like there will be one opposite sea.bar.is, is that a crossing sign you can see on the webcam?

I think what he should have said was that the whole stretch was closed while they did the work at the crossing points ;). In his defence he is not British so maybe he got a bit mixed up with his translation.

Great pictures and I'm sure it'll improve the access for many people with mobility scooters or wheelchairs.

And also shows how narrow the road will be in parts along the front.

Yes its a top class job. Specially impressed with the pretty panterns the moulten tar has made on the walls and nice new pavements

And possibly, and just as importantly, will slow the passing traffic down to not much more than a fast walking pace, making it safer and quieter for everyone.

Mr Sparky has been out and about on his mobility scooter today, they were still laying more ramps but he is a happy bunny and if he is happy then so am i :D.

Ex-mayor slams Puerto Pollensa "improvisation" » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

Tomeu Cifre Ochogovia, the former mayor of Pollensa, has accused the current town hall administration of "total improvisation" in respect of work on adapting Puerto Pollensa's coastal front line road ...

Now the spokesperson for Tots per Pollença in opposition, Cifre says that the town hall has paid out 30,000 euros for the ramps that have raised the level of the road and now enable wheelchair users and others to cross the road without there being obstacles created by the high kerbs of the new pavements. ...

He then went on to criticise the fact that the tourist season had started with roads closed, the smell of tarmac and beaches without sun loungers and parasols. ...

Could not agree more with that article, having been back here a few days now and spent time with locals that we have known over 30 years, not expats, they are all deeply concerned about the way the port is going.

May we ask if their opinions are the same as ours, if we have any, and what is worrying them most ?. Thanks.

I have to say that all the business people and locals that i talk to are not at all happy that work is still ongoing and of course the beach not being ready is a major concern. Lets not forget that it's the hotel/restaurant/bar owners/staff who have to explain to unhappy tourists why we are in this situation :(.

The tarmac works should really be the last part of the works now, or is there more to be done?
(bicycle stands for example)

And lets hope that the beach tender comes to a speedy solution and the planned variety of umbrellas and beach beds can be sourced and installed in double quick time.

It really is a farcial situation and the businesses should look for a reduction in rates from the council for the month of May at least.

The long term impact of the delays could be considerable.

MDR just read through the over one thousand posts if you really want to know what they are saying !! I would suggest most of the opinions are the same as ours but not yours !Tomeu Cifre is to be congratulated in standing up for the locals , both busines and residential. The situation is what it is but the focus of attention should be on ensuring that next winter the council learn from these mistakes, fix what they can and ensure the summer season never ever starts like this again. We should all do what we can to support his activities.
