Barclays Bank, unfortunately, closed in PP last year. The property is now up for rent.
Our "private" banker there, Aina, and other staff moved to Caixa Bank just along the same Main Street into PP so we moved to them. No complaints and very good banking app.

Banco Santander are offering their 123 account, very similar to the one that Santander UK have. No charges if you have income or pension paid in and 3 direct debits set up. 3% interest paid on account balances between 3000 & 16000 euros, also small % paid on utility bills. I have changed from Bankia, where I was getting a pittance of interest.

Apps for mobile devices and also available in English on their online banking site. There is a branch in PP and the staff are very helpful and speak excellent English.

Hi Pine.man
we used to bank with Bancxa, now Bankia, but last week we opened an account with Sabadell. They were brilliant and really quick. The Key Account is pretty much totally free with a debit card and a credit card if you want one (we didn't). Probably best not to go on a Friday, unless you are there only for a long weekend as it might be a bit busy

We've been very happy with Sabadell too. They seem to have a lot of UK customers whenever we are in there, which I assume is an endorsement.

We currently bank with Sabadell and have their Key Account which was costing 24 euros a quarter. This cost has now gone up to 30 euros a quarter with no warning.

On our last visit to Sabadell a few weeks ago it was noticeable that there has been a change in the way the bank is now run and customer service is not as high on their priorities as it once was.

We are therefore looking to change banks and wondered if you would like to share your up-to-date bank charges and recent experiences.

We also bank with LaCaixa. The bank took over Barclays branch in the port. Luckily, Aina, transferred to LaCaixa. She speaks very good English and has excellent customer skills . Do pop in to see her to see if she can help with your bank account requirements.

What are LaCaxia charges? I see Santander have reduced theirs to about €9 per quarter.

I hesitate to recommend anything nowadays, but when you're next in PP it may be worth popping in to Banca March. From my limited dealings, I've found them very helpful ..

Banca March for me and I have tried most of them. They are good and more importantly safe. They are a privately owned bank.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I will call into La Caixa, Banca March and maybe Santander when I return to the Port in June to get up-to-date charges.

We use Bankia who do not charge if a balance of €2,000 is kept in the account. Most of the staff speak excellent English as well, especially Paula who is our 'personal banker'.

Next week we are planning on closing our account and receiving the balance in cash...can anybody see a problem with that? we are with Targo.

We closed an account with what was then Bancaixa. The balance was several thousand euros. No problem. Just be safe obviously 😐

I wonder if you will end up having to pay a 'charge' to close your account - like I did when I closed my account with the Santander branch in the port.

I'd had several ongoing issues with the branch. Even though the staff there seemed nice - they never managed to sort out some of my direct debit payments, resulting in 'red demands' from some of the utility companies when I arrived in the port. So it was a bit of a bitter pill to be charged for closing the account there.....:(
