Our first Easter in Mallorca coming up :D:D:D Any tips/recommendations? How busy is it usually? (We're staying in the Old Town). Will shops/bars/restaurants generally be open? Oh and presumably the Sunday market won't be on?

I read somewhere (TripAdvisor forum) that the market will be on but downsized. I'll be there too so I'll meet you for a pint in La Birreria. I'm sure most things will be open but I'm going to hit Carrefour big time when I arrive tomorrow night as I'm staying for 16 days anyway.

It looks like the weathers on the turn anyway.....

How exciting! We’re there 14 days but only arrive on Easter Sat so hopefully should be able to pick up some basic provisions and then mainly eat out till the Tues. I’ve not been to La Birreria - is that the little bar kinda down the side of the Cafe Espanyol?

It's up the "alley" (Carrer del Temple) between the church and Ca'n Moixet of Placa Major.
I've not been to either bar before but I'm on a promise to my pals to explore some real Mallorquin craft ales and until the 5th I'll be lifting and shifting with my dad (so he deserves a treat) and then my wife arrives on the 5th and expects her new little nest to be all perfectly arranged and the kettle on ready so I'm on best behaviour after than! You'll spot me carrying things around in the general area of Carrer Mallorca!

Haha! If I spot a chap lugging stuff around, I will give you a wave!

Sitting outside our villa in the old town, we’ve just heard a couple of minutes of trilling, flute-y sounding music that seemed to be echoing all around the hills. Can anyone tell me what is was?

It was most likely the Xeremier Orats pipers for the Puig de Maria fiesta

Or could it be the man who goes round the streets offering a knife sharpening service? It's quite a haunting sound!

You could well be right Lorenzo, he was doing the rounds in the Port early in the afternoon yesterday ;).

I did not know it was knife sharpening but we were walking around Pollensa and it got nearer and nearer, it was coming from a car with a speaker on the front (like they use for the elections). We were with friends and we all heard it yet we were in different parts of the town we all thought the same (that it was some sort of piper) until we actually came across the car they seemed to be looking out and up on the roofs of buildings.

Yes that is what he does ;).

He came past our door and I saw him and a lady in the partner seat looking around. Very unusual.
