First wee egg at Hochstadt!

This webcam isn't working properly on my computer - shows live picture and then freezes. last week is was showing shots of inside an office! Says 'Network error'.

I've had the same problem with Hochstadt and at Rottenbach, when I get on I can't see anything because of the bowl of the nest and then it's not available in the evening.

Just caught feeding time in Roettenbach. More difficult to see the little ones this year, with the straw being piled higher, but there was certainly at least 4 heads bobbing up in the fight for food. The other forum has a picture of 5 stork babies in the Roettenbach nest.

Finally managed to see in Hochstadt next..
5 eggs, 1 looks like it's just hatched with tiny chick !

Sadly it looks like there's only two stork chicks now in the Roettenbach nest.

I was thinking the same, but it shows, that nature isn't always predictable.

The remaining chick is quite big already, so lets hope it'll stay healthy and grow into another beautiful stork.

That's just so sad. The nest has been so well built this year you assume everything will be fine...such a shame.

Haven’t been looking at the cam much so never saw 5 chicks, but did see 2 last weekend. Now only one! Very sad Did anyone see what happened? Did the parents just reject them?

No I didnt see what happened - only one lonely little one - but it will be well fed and probably grow enormous! The Hochstadt ones seem to be doing well, although the camera only shows stills on my computer.

On a positive note, the remaining chick gets bigger by the day.

The German forum was equally flabbergasted, though there was a suggestion that the cold and wet weather period over the ten days before last weekend might have played a roll and might have come at the wrong moment for the newly born chicks.
The higher build-up of straw this year might have been to defend against the weather?
For the brief period where there were two chicks, ir was noticeable how much smaller one of them was.

I've found it more frustrating this year trying to view the nests. Rottenbach nest was so well built and protected, it was hard to see and along with Hochstadt camera issues...

We did the Ternelles Valley walk on Sunday with my sister and bro inlaw. No one else turned up, so the four of us had 1500 hectares to ourselves. Was a stunning walk and we saw lots of Black Vultures. The chick in Rottenbach is enormous! Escpecially compared with the ones in Hochstadt -must be all the extra food!
