Money money money!

Porto - thanks for the summary - you made me chuckle - you are not an advocate are you by any chance? ;)

To put Jane's conversion another way that means - for £100 you only get €120 instead of €140 - there goes my "divide it by 3 then multiply by 2" ready reckoner - or if had too much wine and that seems impossible arithmetic "mulitply it by 7" :( What will I do now?

I agree wholeheartedly with Sparky about having whatever you want on holiday but the Scot in me likes to check I am not being robbed! :o Multiplying by 1.2 seems too difficult for a holiday brain - any suggestions!

A young Lala!

I too have a recipe for Almond Cake that I got one year out of the Holiday in Majorca magazine havent attempted it yet but am a bit staggered that you need to use 8 eggs.

We haven't really noticed the prices going up each year (we have been coming since 1998) but like Jonquet dont tend to watch prices when we are in PP but having said that this year that we will stop wasting money on ice creams in the afternoon which we dont really want but eat anyway and packets of biscuits from the supermarkets and wont visit the perfume shops quite so much so there is still enough left for the lovely meals, we tend to do two cheaper nights then a dearer one.

How cheeky are you lot??!! I dont go on holiday to cook thank you very much! Actually I dont do that much at home either come to that LOL! I do like staying in and having a tapas type evening - which hubby LOVES to prepare - I do desert!;)

Bella,

Phwooooargh , I just love feisty women !!!!!

There's your poor hubby slaving away to take you to such lovely places and all you do is dessert !!!!

Stop buying such expensive shoes and you might be able to afford a night out !!!!

LOL

BonysLad :D:D:D

Shall I book Maxim's for Three Kings 2009 ?

Lala70w - Our quick conversion guide -last year it was mulitply 7 this year multiply by 8 (well as a rough rule of thumb..)

Cant wait - will be out Monday for a week

Generally we always breakfast in the apartment...lunch usually baguettes or something light. If we are only there for a week we tend to eat out most nights but in the summer when we are there for 2 weeks we may eat out every 2 or 3 nights...It will be interesting to compare prices this year.

eating and drinks costs 2008

Hello guys and gals!

lala!

Been called a few things but an advocate?? Wow!

This exchange rate is becoming really a prob!

Jane 1.20!!

That's horrific!

When I have bought recently I go to "The Cheque Shop" or "the Money Shop". Yes, yes , I know who'd be seen coming out of there, but generally they leave places like travel agents for dead. and who goes to the banks nowadays??

Don't pay more than you have to!!:)

Eating & Drinking Costs 2008

Guys,

Think it will be helpful and practical to you if instead of posting fatuous comments ( Bella, seriously, thanks for being a great sport, your shoes are now " off limits" ) I was to compile a list of meal of the day prices showing IVA inc/exc plus whether drink prices ( i.e. a bottle of wine between two).

Will restrict it to those restaurants that offer MDD during the evening and are really looking for Tourist trade rather than lunchtime only "worker" only type places.

Will try to complete by the time I return to the UK , in about three weeks time. Hopefully this will help and guide folk in planning and managing their fewer Euros this year.

Take care all ( sun just poked through after a little rain this morning )

BonysLad :)

Jane,

Have you remortgaged? If you think it's dear here wait til you hit those Bruge eateries !!!!

I think that's an excellent idea. Please could you post your findings in this new thread, I've just started http://www.forum.puertopollensa.com/showthread.php?t=3009

Thanks. :)

Oh quit whining you lot - at least you're not converting from DOLLARS, which are worthless!!!! :p

So have prices actually gone up in PP, or is it just that our money doesn't go as far? Obviously, coming from LA, I still think that the cost of eating out etc. is still pretty reasonable, all things considered.

Linzzz..Hi!

I just looked in here and thought , there's Linzz on here and she's at work!

But hey, so what, good to hear from you, and yes I suppose you too have exchange probs!

Your visit to PP is coming soon so you have a great time and don't forget to tell us about it!:D

Best wishes

Aww thanks Porto - my visits have been somewhat sporadic of late (it's the W word of course!) - hence I'm considered a "newbie" again. I'm looking forward to getting to my 2nd home next week & will definitely report back to all.

Take care, Linzzzz

P.S. Dollar has recovered slightly now & 1.97 to the pound

Porto,

An excellent post, as expected.

Without wishing to get political, just look at golden brown (lives at 10 Drowning Street, I believe) His years at the treasury are comming home to roost now.

These effects will reverbarate throughout Europe affecting all tourism, and in particular a holiday based revenue earner like Mallorca.

I love the place, especialy PP. In my opinion the service providers, bars, cafes, eating places etc. are simply the best. they offer all things to all people.

However, I read an alarmist flysheet in a well known travel agency today, "Buy your Euros today; before they reach 1Euro= 1Pound!

Even at that, PP is simply the best.

Hi Jimbo!

Glad to see you have joined this Forum.

Wondered where you've been recently. I know the winter has gone on and on but surely even Glen Shoogle is clear of snow by this time?

Look forward to more of your views!:D

Porto;)
