indeed fair comment on the wanting to eat local thing

only thing we tend to find particularly when there for a fortnight is we get "grubbed out" eating rich food twice a day

can be a nice wee change just having a chinese takeaway, burger and chips or pizza

Good shout, Gers.

A couple of nice full English breakfasts should meet the need. Deep fried Mars bars not reached us in London, yet!

take a walk over the hill, just behind Duva, to cala San Vicente and try a pa amb oli or pepito de lomo in Bar mallorca, right by the beach. It will walk off your English breakfasts and apart from that the views are superb:)

If you ever go into Pollenca old town, a bar that used to be called can danes and has been took over and called i think EL Brio its of the sq, walk up the side of the church, church on you left , cafe espanyol on your right keep going at the newspaper shop turn right and it is on the left corner.. anyway just come back and there set menu was 11 euros each for 3 courses no wine included..and i was gobsmacked at the standard ..very good

Thanks, Moosey - sounds very good and reasonable. Will visit Pollenca more than once I am sure.

Gary - Everyone seems to recommend La Fortalesa. Will definitely give it a try.

think you'll find a full scottish breakfast ie no beans is far better :D

never got the beans with breakast thing, far better with a slice of fried haggis instead, ye cannae beat it ;)

think the deep fried mars bar is a myth though, never seen it anywhere i've ever been in although i may ask for one the next time i'm in stay

hope you're enjoying eel pie while selling tat off a market stall barrow down there in the shallow end though :D or is that just another stereo type

Deep friend Mars Bars have been served in Leicester Square restaurant for the past 3 years! Although you may have now missed out as it has just changed owners and I havent looked at the new menu. They are something that must be tried - only I cant manage a whole one!!

Gers,

You got me sussed, mate! Although I prefer my eels fried in a bit of butter and herbs.

I love a bit of Haggis or black pud with my brekkie too.

Belladonna - I work just down the road from Leicester Square so I will check it out!

OK guys - please keep this track on thread & suggest places offering great Mallorcan food - thanks.:)

For an authentic spanish meal go to C'an Ferras. The menu is excellent(a lot is seafood based ) and it never ceases to amaze us how inexpensive it is .We always feel we have to have a drink after our meal to bump up the price of our evening! I reckon a seafood paella for 3 and a bottle of house wine would probably only set you back about 35 euros.

I Totally Agree !!!!!!!

Hi Paul - if you are staying at the Duva apartments then there is a great little restaurant/bar across the main road called Aries, next to the Spar. Very reasonably priced and they do the best Pepito de Lomo (pork loin in a baguette with tomato and garlic mayo).

GG

Occasionaly there are times when only an "El Kiosko" hits the spot (and I NEVER eat burgers at home) ;)

met a couple in pp 3 years ago whom we got friendly with that just could'nt eat "local rubbish" while we ate out every night at some very nice establishments they "dined" off the burger van every night then we met with them afterwards for a few drinks

takes all sorts i suppose

in saying that there used to be a kebab take away i was very fond of just past bonys that served the best chicken kebab i'd ever had, did'nt notice it there last october though

I hasten to add that the "El Kiosko" is perhaps once in the fortnight holiday -when you really dont feel like another restaurant meal or very much to eat

Yup, that deep yearning for a kebab or curry after a good few drinks is an irresistible urge no matter where you are (even if you have already eaten).

Cath - couldn't agree more - the cheese egg burger with the lightly toasted bun..yum :)

GG

I can be tempted after watching a match live on the big screen in JK's. My sons love the Hot Dogs too. Once during a fortnights hols is not a sin.

Another cracking local delight was the the Crepe Van that was set up just off the square past Bar Cultural last August. Both the nutella crepes and hot churros had my boys in a sugar induced frenzy of chocolate smiles.
