I've got a rotten cold at the moment and my last one a couple of months ago turned into a chest infection, requiring a course of steroids and antibiotics. I'm seriously considering going to my GP before flying out on saturday and asking if I can get another course to take with me just in case. As I couldn't breathe last time.

If she says no, what is the general procedure for seeing a Dr? I have my health card I'm taking with me, but have never accessed any kind of medical care on holiday.

Thanks :)

No problem Mearsy, if you have your EHIC all you need to do is take it and your Passport to the Health Center in Vicente Buades, just before La Villa and they will give you an appointment with a doctor, they are lovely but be prepared to wait (manana) however sometimes it is very quick. If you are given a prescription take it to the Farmacia where you will be charged but not a lot.:)

very important post mearsy and sparky - good to know - just a reminder to everyone to make sure you have your ehic card with you!!

regards

Is this the clinic below the police station and coucil offices further along the road?

Thanks Sparky.

I found them very helpful removing a spelk of wood from my thumb when it turned septic!! They prescribed me with some antibiotics and a cream which cost a lot less at the Pharmacy than the prescription cost in UK!!

I have also found the Pharmacists so helpful for other minor ailments and advice. They seem to play a much more prominent roll in Spain in giving advice etc than they do in the UK and are keen to help.

OH had to use the clinic when he had an abcess under a tooth (previously had gone to the dentist who charged 100 euros and made the problem worse)
He was lucky and had an appointment the same morning....dont forget that your EHIC cards have an expiry date....

Thanks everyone. It sounds quite straight forward, I don't know why I thought it might be anything else, it's just as I say I've never done it before. I've rang my GP after work today and put my request to the receptionist. Currently awaiting a call from the duty doc to see if she'll agree, or want to see me first.

Luckily I went to the dentist on monday, so won't be requiring those services!

Mearsy, I'm sure everything will be fine! You're forgetting one vital aspect................................... the healing qualities of a holiday in PP, it will do you, or anybody a bit concerned at their health the world of good. Believe me!! Doctors can't write prescriptions for it:)

:) Aye, you got that right.

Duty Doc has agreed and I have a prescription waiting for me to pick up in the morning. I don't fancy not being able to breathe again! That wont get me up The Puig now will it?! Oh blimey, I've just realised that I DID have the perfect excuse not to walk it.

Feeling better as the hours go on, and more relaxed to be organised and taking it with me so I don't need to bother those nice tall, dark and handsome spanish Dr's....Oh damn!!!

I'm yet to find a Dr fitting that description at the Health Centre. I'll let you know when I do.!!

LOL, yes the only male doctor i have seen there is tall, overweight and going bald . He is a Barca supporter though, so all is not lost :D;).
