A trip report will be posted with details when we get to PP. For those lucky "locals" who enjoy the place year round, keep your eyes peeled for an english speaking Alsatian walking 2 brits along the pine walk.................that'll be us !

We sailed with Brittany Ferries on Pont Aven to Santander last year. There appeared to be cabins exclusively available for dog owners and their pooches. I was reading in a trade paper that the Brittany Ferries ship Cap Finisterre, which is taking over the Bilboa route from PandO, is having a refit - part of which is the addition of passenger/pet cabins.
Toby my Labrador,excited by the talk of the quality of the food on these ships and is hankering for a trip to PP (in part) via these ships..........

There may be some confusion here. The tunnel does allow dogs on "Le Shuttle" ie by car. Folkstone to Calais. At thirtyfive minutes by far the best for the dog in that you are with them throughout. They cannot leave the vehicle so make sure to use doggyloo before travel. There is a charge of £30 per trip in addition to your fare. Process for checking only takes place on return leg of journey which must take place no sooner than 24hrs and no later than 48hrs after Drontal and frontline have been administered.
If travelling to southern France or Spain the stronger anti tic medication should be used.
Itravelled 28 times in two years with my dog and never had any problems once I had found a good French vet, Best of luck. DEFRA have a good advice site.

This is just brilliant information. Thank you. We did actually give up on the idea of taking our dog with us. This is good info to know for future reference.
Also with regards to the info on the anti tic medication, isn't there a nasty sand fly which effects a dogs eyes which is a worry? I'm sure I heard someone mention this a while ago.

Sparky, as we speak, the Alsatian is sitting here with the headphones on listening to Rosetta Stone Spanish lessons. Not quite got as far as cerdo yet !

Important to remember that you can only travel back to uk with your dog 6 Months after the first injection. Things yoiu must do
1 Have dog micro chipped.
2 1St Rabies injection]
3 1 month later blood test and booster injection.
and passport issued
You can travel out at this point but can only return 5 months later.
EG Chipped and injection now your first trip back into uk would be July.
For travel through France an annual booster jab is recommended.

Best to phone in advance (033 8 25 88 00 00) If you have had a long trip to catch the Shuttle, the IBIS/Etap at Coquelles is 5 minutes drive from the tunnel right by City Europe shopping complex. As Aleksandr woukld say "Seemples!"

Most impressed with your alsatian - he speaks English, and is taking Spanish lessons. Sounds like quite a dog around town. Tell me, does he get out and about to the bars and restaurants in PP?. Just to correct the record "he" ia actually a "she" and Katie has never been to PP before. She is known to go into pubs and does like a drop or two of good beer. As she does know the meaning of "bone", I dread to think what would happen if we told her she was "going walkies to Bonys"
