Great Video of the pole climbing :eek: at the San Antonio celebrations. Must visit in January!!

His second video opening sequences driving down the bay were great also. I couldn't keep my eyes on the road ahead for looking in the mirror!! views of the Cavall Bernatt behind!! :)
 
Great video! Young, loco Mallorcans, raging tetosterone and lots of booze makes for a hairaising spectacle!!! A very braze girl even had a go and they showed no mercy and just climbed all over her. We were there that year and it was nearly as terrifying watching it again as being there 'live' :eek: :eek:

Even spotted Malc in the crowd right at the end...I'd recognise the back of his head anywhere!!! :D
 
You're dead right there! It was great to see the arrival of the tree as hubby and I had just missed it. We managed to follow it all through the town though - although I'm not spending time trying to find us on the video!
I'm sure I heard myself screaming to "come on!" at the very end though! We were SO lucky with the weather weren't we debz - not so lucky with the local wine though if I remember rightly!:eek:

Well done.. yes I was there and am in the camera shot as is my two friends.. It was a weird experience and I did not realise the winner got 500 euro. I know the tree pullers were all given a bottle of heirbas plus other drinks and it took nearly three hours to get to the square. They only pulled for 5 mins and then had a "drinkie" rest. Weather was lovely as well.Regret as no convinient flights I shall not be able to join the festivies this time but will definately try for the next year.

A mission for someone (Sparky ;))..

Arriving in PP about 7pm on 15th..does anyone know if Eroski will still be open on the Sat evening or if not will it be open as usual on Sunday morning..

last year we arrived on the evening of the fires and of course everything was closed Sunday and i have a feeling Eroski was still closed on Monday.I will bring a few essentials but its things like water and bread that we will need to get.

cant wait now...1 week to go :D
 
Cath you should not have a problem Eroski and Hyper-centro are open until 9pm on Saturdays and 9am-2pm on Sundays. :)
 
We have never been lucky enough for our trips to coincide with the San Antoni fiesta until this year and I am getting quite excited. We will arrive in PP approx 21.30 (plane and bus timing permitting!) so will miss the lighting of most of the fires but hopefully we will be able to experience the atmosphere, as reading a report from last year, the celebrations seem to go well into the night.

Up early(ish) on Monday to watch the pine tree arriving, hopefully we will get some good photos, the weather report, up to now, is good. Love to see and experience the local traditions, can't wait, roll on Sunday.:)
 
Yes Whaley the 17th is a local holiday Hypercentro is definitely closed so i would assume Eroski will be as well. I believe San Antoni is mainly only celebrated in Pollensa, PP and Sa Pobla so you may well find the supermarkets will open in Alcudia.
 
Sorry!!!! Whaley i have just found out that Alcudia also celebrate Sant Antoni so you might need to go further afield to get some shopping. :o

Thanks Sparky, there's nothing that can't wait till Tuesday and anyway I will be too busy watching all the activities,:)
 
Sparky, I think only the Pollensa Eroski is open on Sundays during the winter - the PP supermarkets are closed. However as you said they are open until 9pm Saturday night and yes, they are all closed Monday in Pollensa, Puerto Pollensa and Sa Pobla.

Watch out if you are driving around the port. Just witnessed a local elderly couple stove their car into the mound of earth outside Simbads. Bit of damage to the car and they were shaken up. 2 minutes later, the council turn up with the barricades. Only in Spain! My first time out for St Antoni, but you can feel the atmosphere building.

JMD, hubby assures me that Hyper and the big PP Eroski have both been opening from 9 or 10am until 2pm for a while now :confused:.

The mounds of earth have been delivered and i have seen logs being delivered, the excitement is starting to build :D.
