The season has started?

This morning, we were accosted on the Pine Walk by dubious looking ladies selling sprigs of white heather. Is this a sign the season proper has started?

Our response followed the example of Private Eye in their letter to Goodman and Co of April 1971.

In deference to those members who are of a nervous disposition I have not left a link on the forum. More adventurous souls can PM me for the link to Private Eyes letter...........
 
The looky looky men were also out in force in April - much more in evidence than I can remember them being during recent Easter visits. They weren't hassling people though, just walking up and down the Pine Walk.
 
None of this is good news. Who wants to be pestered by this lot while trying to enjoy a holiday? Poor parents being nagged by their kids to buy the illegal tat they sell. I thought it was illegal so the police need to get a grip and get rid of them.
 
Tbh the tat they were selling was so very obviously tat (hideously coloured fake Raybans with a 'Rayban' sticker on) that my kids didn't want to touch it with a barge pole!

I wondered if not actively thrusting their wares in people's faces was a way of avoiding being arrested - I didn't see one of them actually stopping a potential customer (or indeed selling anything). It was a very low-key sales pitch, but I do agree that they add nothing to the place and that it would be better without them.

Kate I think quite a lot of them are not that bothered about selling the wares you see on show :( :eek:

I disagree. The looky looky men are synonymous with holidays. Chill out mate. Buy the kids a wee something to keep them occupied while you read your Daily Mail in peace.

I agree actually. A couple of them are really nice guys, and stop and chat if they see my wife and I. Some of them have been doing this patch for some time.

Mind you, what I am going to do with 4500 pairs of oversize, orange sunglasses and a Breitling that appears to be made of tin, I'll never know...

lol great post, my Wolex watch bought by the youngest bluebell 8 years ago as a holiday present for daddy is still going strong, never replaced a battery yet as it does self wind, 10euro think it was, great watch for working around garden diy and in garage

or does it really have Swiss internals ha ha :D

You might not be quite so keen on your comments when you realise that funds from counterfeit goods sales go to profit drug trafficking, illegal arms sales and terrorism. Yes, the average "looky-looky" man may be harmless but loads of them walking about pestering people is another matter in my opinion.

But you are right on one thing, I do enjoy a read of the Daily Mail now and again!

Hoopy I agree with Nick. I'm not saying all of them but as I said in my last post some of the looky looky men are not what they seem. Imo they are best ignored.
 
From what I have heard the 'looky looky men' are exploited by wealthy middle class Western men!

Debz, Nick came out with the biggest generalisation I have ever heard from him although he has came out with a few whoppers over time.

I know exactly what you're alluding to and am sure that not every looky looky man is a pillar of society, however to suggest they help fund terrorism etc is sensationalist nonsense.
 
Has the season started ---well the silly season maybe ....I think its time Sparky to mobilise the troops and man the barricades ....Its time to put the PROPPEER plan into action otherwise known as the Peoples Republic of Puerto Pollensa exercise expulsion riff raff....Sorry dont know what has come over me may be it was the sweetie with the smiley face the looky looky man gave me for buying one of his Badbans but I slept well last night -dreamt of a red road leading me to a square where a man wearing bicycle clips threw sweets in the air and every where I went every one was smiling and happy.

Is there a Doctor in the house ? I seem to have got my tongue stuck in my cheek ..
 
Don't worry Tiggy, it's just the usual annual debates taking place for "Lucky lucky men", dress code, the state of the beach and of course the eternal "Doggy Doo". It will soon be over..........until next year of course ;) ;).
 
Not so soon Sparky, we haven't even started on football tops yet! ;)
 
I think that we should all dress like "looky-looky" men, walk the beach selling fake football shirts, with sandals plastered in dog-sh*t.

Now that would confuse everyone......
 
The first post referred to the ladies offering the lavender... this is definatley to be reported to the police station or the tourist information office. These ladies DO steal your purses and hound you.
The `sunglasses and CD`s´sellers are normally very low key and just show their wares and its up to you whether you make conversation with them. As far as I am aware they have never been accused of stealing from anyone and as someone suggested most are actually very polite and with a good sense of humour. It is true that they are driven into the area from the South of the Island to walk the streets for many hours selling their wares and live in small rooms with minimum mod cons. Totally illegal and not a plus for the resorts of course but not as harmful as the lavender ladies..... in my personal opinion.
 
I've just checked my wallet and watch - all present and correct.:)
We met the lavender sellers at the far end of Paseo Vora Mar.
