Is there any news on the updated website which was mentioned quite some time ago?
It’s been a while and I think there are still issues with new members joining.
There are so little new messages nowadays. It’s such a shame because it’s always been a very useful site.

In my humble opinion, the new “owner” can’t afford it.

According to the community section, 149 members have visited the site this year, and I couldn't find any that had joined this year. Thus, no new members at all this year, yet. But I suspect that goes back much further than 1 year - 3 or 4 years is more likely. We appear to have 1543 users, yet Facebook Site "I Love Puerto Pollensa" now has many, many thousands, along with several other Forums.

I am not aware who the "owner" of this site is, and cannot comment.

Despite these figures, I kept a close watch on the the Sunbed debacle this year, and am delighted to say that I am petty sure that this forum was the first to supply anyone with with the correct information as to how it was all ending up. Well done Sparky, (et al,).

As the "owner" of the site, respectfully, we can definitely afford it. I'm not sure why you would assume that without knowing us?

We had a meeting last week with the web designers, Stay Creative, a local firm that we have commissioned to build the new platform, which is developed and is now in the final stages where they will finish the design and snag the functionality.

They have been excellent but not fast, as we instructed them in October last year!

We can't really update the forum software properly until we have the design because if we do, we will have to do it twice and pay for the work twice, which wouldn't be sensible. We had hoped to have it done much quicker but it's hard here. Things take time.

On a personal note, our personal lives have been absolutely full on. We're building a house here and have had the most awful experience with the builder and for the last couple of years it's been all consuming. We're still in rented accommodation years after the house was due to be completed and three weeks ago, with the house almost completed, we had to sack the builder and find someone else to finish the house.

So whilst we absolutely love this site and it's members and have plans to make it awesome again, we have so much stuff going on. So at the moment it is very difficult, and life has been like this for us for the last couple of years.
This is all on top of emigrating our young family and navigating all the stress that comes with that. Oh, and our daughter is autistic so that makes all of the above just a little bit harder every day.

I really do want to apologise to everyone for not updating you all with this stuff so you know why there is a delay. But it's obviously not easy to discuss. We know most people will understand. Everybody has things going on in their lives. This is just ours.

To comment that it is about money without knowing anything about us is in bad taste and isn't very kind.

This forum is a great resource. Sparky is fantastic as are many of the members. It will be open for new members, as soon as the software is updated.

Also, we have a Facebook page with over 23,000 followers. It is a page rather than a group because this community is already in place. On the page we post lovely photos, news etc and people can comment if they choose.

Thank you again Sparky for everything you do on the forum. We really appreciate all your time and effort and all your updates :)

Interesting!

You say "We have a Facebook Page with thousands of members". May I ask who is "WE", and what is it called .... i.e. how can we access it?

Thanks.

The forum on this site is provided free of charge, if you do not like it you should not use it!
Keep up the good work Sparky.
Toni I hope you and your family have a better year.

I too am grateful for having access to the forum. I don't do social media so miss out on all the Facebook info.
I remember a couple of years back there was a tv programme about your house building project Toni. You were so committed and brave taking it on. I often wondered how you were getting on with it, it sounds as though you've had a tricky time but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.
Many thanks to Sparky for looking after things. I think a few of us were a bit concerned a couple of weeks ago when it all went 'quiet'. Thankfully Toni let us know all was OK and it was a computer issue. Thank you once again. I'd miss the chat if it wasn't there!

I’m glad to hear that things are in hand, and it would be nice to see the Forum restored to its former glory, when there were loads of participants and a great mixture of cheerful banter and helpful information.

I have to admit to only glancing at the Forum about once a week now and have found it a bit disappointing to write a Trip Report and get one comment and two likes, so I don’t bother now. There’s so much activity on social media that these sort of sites have massive competition.

I see why you would find the “can’t afford it” comment disappointing, Toni, but to be fair, there have been very few updates for the members of this Forum on the progress of the update of the site, so it is hardly surprising that there has been some “speculation”. I wish you well with the future of this Forum, and indeed your own property. If the updates work, I’ll be back. Just keep us in the loop, eh?

I too greatly appreciate the website as a non participant in any so called " social" websites. From what I have seen most of them appear to be very " antisocial".
The outstanding feature of the Forum is that the participants all tend to use it to find, sensibly comment on and post subjects to aid and assist others rather than just being critical of others.
Unfortunately some, me included, inadvertently may make a comment that upsets others but the resultant messages soon iron out any misunderstandings.
It is a pity that the number of regular participants and the variety of subjects
posted has dropped recently but hopefully this will be rectified in the near future.
Thanks to all involved in the site.
KEEP CALM AND KEEP ON POSTING.
Thanks

'Former glory' days included Bony's Lad and Snowy - always good for a bit of controversy and fun

Am I remembering correctly 'Pollensafan'?
He was so witty, I enjoyed his posts.

Miller posted this today:-

Just on that point PP Toni, can you give us any idea of a timescale as to when we may actually be "Up and Running" with the new software? Even a rough guide ,,,, 3 months, 6 months, 2 years, whatever?

There were a number of intelligent, knowledgable and witty contributors to this site (one of whom I seem to recall worked for HMRC, but he couldn’t have been all bad !) but I think they either died or got fed up with the snide remarks..

Miller - take care with your sarcasm (albeit the lowest form of wit, get my drift) because someone will take offence

I met Bonyslad and Snowy via this forum about 20 years ago and my husband (Chelseadons) and I both became great friends with them, and their lovely wives. Both had wicked senses of humour which luckily were akin to ours! We frequently met up not only in PP but also in the Uk. Hubby and I went away with Bonyslad and his lovely wife on many other holidays including a cruise, Florida and various Christmas markets.

Dear Snowy passed away about 5 years ago, and Bonyslad 2 years ago. Two great characters who, as you said Rosie could be controversial, but boy were they funny!

Hi
I do not post on here much but I do visit from time to time.
Pretty much the same for the Tripadvisor PP forum.
There seems to be much less input on both sites of late - I wonder why?
Is it because people can get information so freely from other sources facebook, x etc?
I have often enjoyed and welcomed the expertise offered on both sites.
"The times they are a'changing" ???

Athough lots of information is available online generally, I feel it's always better to get it direct from a forum like this one - much more personal and reliable. That's been my experience anyway:)
