Animal sanctuary

Hi Debz1. We too overlook the poor animal and have noticed a deterioration in condition over the last few months. It seems to exist in terrible conditions without exercise. This seems to be the way most locals treat their dogs I'm afraid but that is no reason why you should not continue your quest. Good luck.

Hi Golfaholics! Yesterday I contacted Ann at Talk of the North as the addresss I had for the refuge, which I got from their website, kept coming back as undeliverable. She got back to me very quickly and gave me the correct address. I emailed them immediately and am hoping someone will respond soon. Fingers crossed!

Hopefully see you again in PP soon.

Animal Sanctuary

If you are concerned about the welfare of animals in the Pollenca area, why not contact the police?
They have recently appointed a police officer with responsibility for issues relating to animal welfare.
A friend contacted the police regarding a dog that was not being cared for and the policeman was there the next morning and the matter was dealt with.

Cheers!

Neglected dog

Does anyone know if the situation with the poor dog has been resolved yet ?

I have had no response from the sanctuary despite emailing them last week!

Friends staying over in the apartment at the moment have reported back that she's still tethered and has not been taking out for a walk at all. However the children of the house are playing outside more now after school so she has got more company than during the winter, and they do pet him occasionally!

San Miguel thanks for the info about the police..I won't be out again until mid June but will certainly go to the police if the situation hasn't improved.

so deds1 won,t be back over till june, is there nobody else staying in pp can take up the mantle, or are you all turning a blind eye to the dog. Let,s face facts, the Spanish in general are cruel to animals. Anybody ever seen a bull fight? gpm

Why keep a dog at all, if you're just going to leave it chained up outside? Idiots.

hi everyone, heading over this thursday, has anybody heard how the dog is?
gpm

Hi gpm some friends were staying at our apartment a couple of weeks ago and I asked them to report back. The dog is still tethered all day every day and they never saw her being taking for a walk. She's fed and watered and they saw the young boy who lives there stroke her a couple of times...but that's it! It's more neglect than cruelty ( they aren't starving or hitting her) although I feel it's very cruel keeping a dog under those conditions. They were also concerned that she often pushed her water bowl off the edge of the terrace and then would not have any water until the owners came home from work! On the occasions this happened my friends chucked her some ice cubes over the wall.

I am definitely going to go to the police in June as I never did get a response from the animal sanctuary!!

just wondering if theres an update on that poor dog that debz1 was concerned about earlier in the year . hope things ended happily?

After visiting the animal sanctuary in July and being told they would investigate and talk to the owners I was hoping things would have improved! Sadly not...we arrived last saturday and the dog is still chained and very thin , and still being ignored by the owners.

Yesterday I went to the Guardia Civil station which is near our apartment and spoke to half a dozen , extremely gorgeous ;) armed  policeman. Between us with my broken spanish and their english I think they got the drift but said the animal welfare officer was vey busy so might not be able to visit for a few days!! Watch this space.....

Mean while Dina is enjoying the char-grilled chicken bits that my hubby bought for his lunchtime baguettes!! :)

any update on dina the poor dog ?

Hi Debs!!!

Welcome back!!! Can't remember if I told you but I went to the refuge while I was there. They have a mobile unit that goes around (I saw it parked there that day) so I would continue to bug them. You might try speaking to Martin instead of Josefina as he speaks more English. Good luck!

Hi Linz

Yes you did tell me that you'd been :) When we went in June it was Martin I spoke to as Josefina wasn't there. I gave him the address and he said someone would visit, but 3 months later the dog is still living a pitiful existence as ever. I also visited the Guardia Civil two weeks ago to report about her, but to no effect...I'm running out of ideas!

Got back yesterday and in the entire 3 weeks we were there she was not taken off the tether once. The family is out all day during the week but even at weekends she never gets let off the tether, and only gets an occasional pat on the head from one of the kids. She barks and wags her tail at them when they are there , which isn't often, but they just tell her to shut up

Dina spends her entire life in a small walled garden tied up by a rope no more than 7ft long. She has recently started to dig a hole in the ground after which she curls up into a tight ball and then spends the whole day asleep. She is a beautiful hunting dog and needs plenty of exercise...of which she gets none!

My next idea is to send photos of Dina and explain the situation to Ann at Talk of the North, as I know she has a lot of dealings with the Sanctuary. She did give me an email address months ago but the mails all came back undeliverable, and I cant find an email address when I google the animal sanctuary.

Ps Don't you wish you were back in PP Linz?:(

well youre trying your best debz ,dont give up she deserves a good life. its such a sad tale. there must be some one there that can help.best of luck , wish i could help

Debz, have you actually been to the refuge at the back of Llenaire? Ive seen it signposted but never followed it. Perhaps they would be more aware of how to deal with the situtation?

SORRY! Just realised that the refuge probably comes under the same refuge as previously spoken about as being in Alcudia> Ignore me!

I suspect that you identify why she might not be getting exercise. Sounds like she's a working dog not a housepet and I'm pretty sure that the hunting season is closed for a few weeks more. Though why her owners don't exercise her to keep her skills honed beats me.

Yes Debs I do wish I was still there :(
Perhaps you could email the sanctuary with a picture & the address if you've not done so already. The email is refugifina@refugifina.org. Very frustrating that you've not had any luck in getting help for Dina. Is there someone who lives there that can call the sanctuary on a regular basis?

Linz I only realised last night the address I wanted was the 'refugina ' one. When I looked back through old posts to page one, that address looked like it was for the Alcudia refuge, but I suddenly thought the owner is called Josefina and put two and two together  silly me!!

So yes I will send pictures of Dina and the address and see if I get a response . Also our friend Joan is supposed to be going with Josefina to the house but as yet I've not heard from him that he's been. He works in Palma and only comes to PP at the weekends 'tho.

Bella there are two refuges one in Alcudia and another in the countryside between PP and Pollensa. The signs that you've seen in Llenaire are for the Pollensa one.
