Oh I know on the corner, they have the tables across the road next to the church, that should be nice there.

Sorry Cath but that is what my neighbour told me last night, i know you love it there. :( Of course they may carry on serving food as well as being a bar.

Latest news, a "Bar Cultural" sign has gone up outside what was "Bar Ramon" and it looks very close to opening. :D

It is due to open tomorrow morning at 0800. The original plan had been to move into Can Torren's in 1 year but it now looks likely that the lease will be relinquished at the end of the season. I did know that was where they planned to go but wasn't sure if the staff at can torrens knew at the time I posted.

I don't think it matters where it re-opens.The attraction was it's location.
I'll certainly give it a go,but it wont be the same.

On a purely personal level is is an enormous disappointment. There was (is) no better time spent than sat at B.C. in the sunshine on a January afternoon.

Or drinking cheap beer whilst watching the climbing of the pine.

Where is Bar Ramon?

MoMike, Bar Ramon is in C/Roger de Flor past the post office and just before the car park;).

Sorry to see another old well known bar go:mad: I just hope our old friend Mr Tex Mex ain't sniffing around:mad:

On the plus side it will put a bit of life into what was once Ramons Bar, Hepburns, Rovers Return, etc, there were so many on that site but they never seemed to last long! Maybe it will drag more people away from the square, there are some really nice little bars in Roger de Flor and beyond.

Crikey this thread started whilst I was having a wonderful week in Cornwall and completely passed me by

What a loss this will be .............. there was something very comforting about the fact that this bar could exist in what is clearly a prime spot without ever looking as though it "tried" ........ maybe the truth is that it couldn't survive .............. sadly this was one of the few places that kept the square alive in Jan/Feb and will be missed by locals and by winter time tourists ................... and goodness me where will all the Dads lurk whilst waiting for their daughters to fall out of Chivas

Lets hope whoever takes it over is sympathetic to the tradition of PP albeit moving with the times and tidying the place up but that it is also a year round business ............... the square needs it

Or if not lets hope Bar Cultural opens in C'an Torrens sooner rather than later and stays open all year round

Wonder where Canon Mel will go after his services now? Whenever we needed to speak to him about the wedding, we knew where to find him on a Sunday Morning!

Hello my old friend Smiddy. You forgot to mention Hunters and VIP Bar.

I stand corrected Steve! As i said there have been so many, always felt a bit sorry for some of them, they always seemed empty. Don't know how they are going to fit all the Cultural Bars customers in. It's a bit small with little or no room outside, on a very busy road.

I have been past the NEW Cultural several times today and am glad that the traditional local supporters have followed them, it does make that corner of bars come to life now, maybe a up and coming area for the locals

Just back having watched all the Classicos in here yet again... surrounded by locals from 3-93 years old!

Luckily I'd no idea it was closing or it would have been a black spot in an otherwise perfect summer holiday...

:-(

Help Please ...... I can't place Bar Ramon ......... so I know where the post office is and I know where the car park is but the only Bars I can think of are Bar Junior on the corner, bar Bodiquita(sp??? ) on the other corner ( I think of Calle Llevante)

Where is it in relation to these ?

CD,i t is just a bit before Bar Junior there used to be a video hire shop next door.:D

Kev,

At last Sunday's service Cannon Mel said that he had made arrangements with C'an Torrens to be the new location for coffee.

Hi cd.

Long time no see!

If you look on Google Streetview you will see Bar Ramon about 50 yards along from the Post Office, on the same side, opposite the green coloured block of flats, name escapes me at the moment.

Porto;)
