Best 5 Restaurant's in PP 2011 (IYO)

  • Thread starter Thread starter mwc
  • Start date Start date
Hard one this, as each of the restaurants is my "number one" in a different respect.

1. O Lume - quality of food and wine, impecccable service and particularly good champagne cocktails!
2. Bar Coral - a very warm welcome from staff no matter how busy they are. Consistently good home cooking especially the aioli and shoulder of lamb.
3. El Posito - best value MDD for freshly cooked quality Mallorquin food. A must for our Sunday lunch.
4. Stay - excellent value MDD, great service and probably the best location in the port.
5. Nostalgia - great food, great service and great atmosphere.

Visited them all on two separate trips this year - hope I get to visit again for the year is out!

Miss Fussies Top 5

My top 5 :)

O lume - Jaime continues to be an excellent host and goes above and beyond in terms of catering to my own specific dietary requirements. Food is always of a high quality and he is happy to prepare something not on the menu if required. An excellent restaurant with excellent prices.

Pension Bellavista - A new find this year. I have found it difficult to get a variety of vegetarian food over the years, however this little restaurant had so many choices. Both dishes I had were fabulous and beautifully presented, plus I loved the garden setting. Can't wait to return to try more.

Tribeca - I'm always happy with the food I receive here. Had no complaints this year, my cauliflower and lentil curry was lovely.

Citrus - Maureen and Kenny are lovely people and create a very welcoming environment. Having arrived very late, Kenny prepared a meal for me as the kitchen was closing which was much appreciated. I had eaten here several times throughout my stay and each time, I thoroughly enjoyed the food. He was also kind enough to prepare vegetable tempura as a starter as they only had chicken tempura on the menu. Their caramel shortcake is also fabulous!

C'an Cuarassa - Always loved it here, the setting is lovely however, for me, the food was average. I had a similar meal to that in O lume which was half the price and better quality. It wouldn't put me off returning in future, just on this occasion, I was slightly disappointed.

Mr Fussies Top 5

1. O'Lume - easliy the best food & service in PP

2. Bellavista - thank you sws97sdg for posting on this establisment otherwise we would never have found it. Forget its vegetarian only food and just enjoy the food and setting. Simply marvellous.

3. can Cuarassa - always delivers the goods in an wonderful setting

4/5 Tied Los Faroles & Citrus. Los Faroles slipped down the rankings due a slightly disappointing second visit.

Unfortunately we only visited La Trencadora in Pollensa so cannot compile a top 5 for Pollensa. However based on this visit I would have placed in 3rd in our overall rankings pushing the others down 1 slot.

Mr Fussie

Our top five have changed a few times but I think we have decided now !

Stay - It really does have it all situation, service , food Love it

Can Ferra - Because we love our fish and their Sole is fantastic and the best chips anywhere !

El Posito - Loved our Suckling pig and great atmosphere and service

Can Josep - Fantastic lamb Went on the evening the guitarist was on and it was beautiful

OLume - Only last as we went there our first evening and it was a bit quiet and we were tired The food and service were excellent

We also had some very good wines everywhere
Thank you to all the previous posters recommendations particuarly for El Posito ( Ironman I think ?) as we wouldnt have found this one

Based on our recent (May/June) trip:

1 Miguelon - Awesome beef sirloin... and Miguel runs it, so it's always going to be fun!

2 Laguna - Great poolside seating. Extensive, value menu to cater for all tastes. Super pizzas.

3 Naciente - Superb pork fillet and lovely garden setting - Try the fries with garlic.

Recently returned after 9 glorious days and my vote is as follows:

STAY - Havent dined in the evening here for some time as normally only have lunch. Evening set menu all three courses brilliant outstanding service setting, everything. Not expensive at only about 70 euros, incl. coffees, wine water, compl. brandies. Also cater for gluten free if you ask.

O LUME - Have dined here several times before and never been a massive fan but now understand its popularity. Great outdoor courtyard setting, (which makes a big difference), food and service first class.

NICOS - Still consistently good food much better than all the Tex Meses.

LA PIAZZA - I know the service here can be a little inconsistent, but best pizzas in the port, try the brie & bacon.

TAPAS BAR ON FRONT NEAR MIRAMAMR HOTEL (L'ALMIRANT?) - Only went here at lunchtime but great tapas and desserts (especially the home made Baileys ice cream), lovely setting and friendly service.

just back from pp just did a week going back on the 18th of july for 5 weeks
top 5 restaurants this time were

1. little italy.
2.el mojito.
3. el posito
4.celler la parra very underrated!
5. o lume

and my most overrated restaurant was stay.

My top 5

1) Stay...best value MDD in the Port. Beautiful location, great staff, fab
atmosphere. Went 3 times in our month away and the place was packed to
the rafters each time :)

2) La Llonja....nearly on a par with Stay but not quite! Great MDD :)

3) Los Zarzales...Best suckling pig in the Port IMO. Lovely surroundings in the
courtyard which unfortunately wasn't opening til the day after we went
(due to the bad weather they'd had)

4) Ca'n Josep...really love this place and thought the quality of the food had
gone up a notch since last year (and it was good then!). Nothing is too
much trouble for Josep, he is charming, very professional but also has a
touch of the 'Manuel's' about him :) Go on a night Mariano is playing!

5) Little Italy... Just heaven to sit on the Pine Walk and eat pizza as good
as any you'd get in Rome, drink wine and watch the world go by! Great
views all round ;) Hola Sebastian!

The best five restaurants I visited in P.P. (In my opinion - this trip - May / June 2011).

1. La Llonja - Great surroundings on the Marina, excellently set up very
smart restaurant
with attentive staff, excellent food well prepared and served.
Very good all round. Really need to book your table, especially so
in main season.
5 pts.

2. C’an Josep - Very good restaurant with excellent service from Josep and his
staff.
Possibly the best G&T in P.P. Excellent fresh bread, olives and
aioli. Excellent food and good service.
Also the wonderful classical guitar of the amazing Miriano Miranda
(a bit of lighter ‘stuff’ as well, but you really will enjoy the
classics, he’s that good!).
4 pts.

3= O’Lume - Jaime is the quintessential host, his staff are well trained. Good
food, good service, a nice location, whether eating inside or out.
Give it a try this year, you shouldn’t be disappointed. Good value
for money.
2 pts.

3= Los Zarzarles - Yolanda and staff run a great restaurant, not that easy to find if
you’re new to P.P. but worth searching out. Lots of traditional
food on the menu, well presented. Nice building inside, courtyard
popular outside when it’s warm.
2 pts.

3= El Posito - Excellent ‘Lechona’ after a previous disappointment. One of the
better 'more traditional’ restaurants in P.P. Well run by Toni the
owner and his staff.
The Lemon Merangue will take some beating - anywhere.
Somewhat let down by the little things - bread, olives, etc. on
our visit. But a very popular well liked restaurant.
2 pts.

Well that’s my five for this year, I would have liked to have fit in Bar Coral somewhere as the Shoulder of Lamb was excellent, though I did not try it anywhere else to compare. Also all those restaurants I was unable to fit in whilst in P.P. - Stay, Tango, Trio, C’an Curassa, Nostalgia, Maxim, Laguna, Cellar la Parra and all those in Pollensa Town - to name but a few.
I’ll have to leave them to all you P.P. fans out there, let us know how you get on and do make the effort to try different places, there are so many to choose from.
Good luck and happy eating to all of you and to the restaurant owners, keep up the good work.

Your're right about trying other restaurants Pescador. Perhaps we need to take count of the top 5 or 6 as of now, which is pretty much constant, then do a top 5 of others with write ups. Otherwise it seems to be getting a bit samey.

Well my top five has changed a lot this year after trying a few different ones, so

1. Bellavista Pension, without doubt still the best food we have had in the port, and we enjoyed the live Faldo singing in the evening as well, great friendly atmosphere

2. el Mojito, great food, friendly service and great new location

3. Tiberi, Shock, down to third place now but still great food and service from them.

4. el Posito, first time here and what great food and service, they really look after you and ensure everything is perfect for you.

5. Another new one Los Zazarles, brilliant food, wish we had listened to you all years ago, we will be straight back

I think many of us do try other restaurants and the fact that there are different names being mentioned now bears that out. There are still many members who have yet to have their holidays so plenty of time for things to change before MWC does the final tally up of votes.:)

We also find new or different restaurants... El Mojito and Miguelon were new for us this year. Both were very good ....but my Top 5 are my Top 5!

I think forum members, especially ones going to PP for the first time researching where to eat, want to read about those not choices 6,7, 8 etc. Unless we make it a Top 10 ;)

As sparky says it's early days and the votes may change as the season gets into full swing.

What I find helpful about threads like this is that they tell you the places which are popular - something not always the same as the "best".

Of course, everyone's tastes are different - folk like different types of places and, indeed, different types of food. To find what suits you, you have to look a bit further - for the review type posts which tell you about the food and so on. Personally, I don't gain much from a post saying the fish was fantastic or lousy. I do gain much when the post tells me the fish came with a salsa verde but that it had been overcooked.

But, for an example of how these "best/favourite" threads help, if I'm looking for a vegetarian meal then the mentions of Bellavista makes that the place to try rather than taking a wild punt at vegetarian food I might see on another menu.

Crikey - a top 5 is hard enough going for those of us with short breaks out, top 10 is fine for those who are out for weeks.. and weeks. and weeks...! LOL! Can you imagine the packing for dress size changes....
Hope a few members do try the unusal though and post a few changes.;)

Bella - along with Debz you mention a 'top 10' restaurants in your post.

Do you remember a year or two back when there was the 14 day challenge!!!
I'm sure one or two 'posters' did manage it - but 14 nights on the trot takes some doing!

How lucky to have all the mentioned Restaurants available in P.P. They all offer excellent food at a reasonable price. However, spare a thought for the " Family " that want to eat out and the Frugal (Or tight like me). It should be mentioned that most restaurants are now doing Meal of the day. even ones that would not have found it necessary in the past. You can get excellent food (with drinks included) for less than 20E . A favourite of mine and rarely mentioned here is Hibiscus for a good set meal incl.wine and water with my favourite Suckling Pig. Just come back after a week but will be trying at least 15 places as I am out for the whole of August, so will try and give you my personal verdict
and the cost... of my favourites.

If anyone wants to to try the 14 day challenge please do, but start a new thread.
Lets keep this one on topic and only post your "Top 5", thanks for your understanding;).
