One of the chicks seems to have twine tangled round it’s foot and it’s round his neck, he’s struggling to stand

Oh no - I couldnt see that when I looked earlier and now the camera is not playing.

All is well, a man in a cherry picker has arrived to disentangle him and he’s taken all the rubbish out of the nest - including the snake!

I presume the adult stork flew away when the man went up in the cherry picker? Wouldn’t fancy facing up a protective mum with a sharp beak like that :eek::eek:

Oh that is such good news😍. Love the stork camera and watching the chicks grow so quickly but it is a bit nerve wracking at times.

Wet bunch of chicks in the nest this lunchtime, with mum standing watch.

Just looked at the webcam and there are only two babies in the nest. I wonder if it’s just gone on a test flight, gone for good or fallen out of the nest! I haven’t watched for a few days so wonder if anyone else saw anything?

Just ignore me! There are 3 babies ... I thought one of them was one of the adults as they’re getting so big. Oh dear lockdown boredom is really kicking in today

I get them confused as well now and can’t believe how quickly they have grown! And the parents seem to be leaving them on their own probably encouraging their independence 🙂

Do not worry, I am sure that there will be many more storks than usual flying about 9 months into lockdown!!

Does anyone know if they 'ring' the chicks before they leave? I've really enjoyed watching them develop. I'll need to remember to watch next year. It's helped get through these difficult times!

I think they keep in contact via the " cloud"
Sorry, could not resist!

Got an answer from LBV:
(with Google Translate)

Ringing is not widespread in Bavaria, ...

Parts of Middle Franconia, Swabia and Upper Bavaria are ringed to answer scientific questions such as Departure direction (west or east puller) to follow.

Such ringing must take place at an age when the young are already big enough so that the ring no longer slips and is still small enough to prefer to “stand dead” instead of jumping out in the “danger” in the nest.

... However, some nests are also excluded if they e.g. could not be reached or could only be achieved with massive effort. In addition, of course, there is also the fact that the respective building owner must also agree e.g. with access to his property by a lift or building inspection with climbing from a roof hatch etc.

The chimney in Röttenbach is also a location that could only be reached with increased effort and is therefore not taken into account.
