So.....
Rottenbach has 3 sizeable chicks but no sign of other eggs.
Lindheim has 3 wee chicks and 1 egg .
Hochstadt has 2 wee chicks and 1 egg.

I know it's nature but it's a wee bit sad when some eggs/chicks don't make it. More room for the rest to thrive I suppose!

I was watching one of them this morning - it was on its own and trying to pluck up courage to take off! Its sibling was flying but he/she was still dithering

Is it acceptable to refer to them as "chicks" or "morning birds". Should we not just refer to them as "our feathered friends"?

I thought the storks migrated to warm climates in winter, but just checking the webcams, the poor things are standing there on their nest in snow

They were there last winter as well, must be global warming/

Doesnt look as if there is much global warming in Germany - just feel sorry for them!

It's a wee shame...
I remember seeing them in their snow covered nests last year. It just seems so open to the elements but I suppose it's all nature.

I noticed that this morning. I'm sure last year they made it to 5 eggs...past posts will confirm I suppose.

I just love watching this every year.
Good to know others enjoy it too!

First egg in Rottenbach

Quite strangely I clicked on the webcam in the early hours of this morning, and both the storks were doing a bit of house work. I thought it was an odd thing to be doing at that time, and then and I spotted the egg. No idea what made me look, as I haven’t for months.

My ‘Storkdar’ must be working well!

As per the Roettenbach FAQs, 3-5 eggs are laid 2-3 days apart, in case you were looking out for the next one(s).
Incubation begins before the clutch is complete and the incubation period is about 33-34 days.

Are the eggs early this year due to the weather conditions or is it just because Easter comes earlier!

The last two years the first egg/s in Roettenbach were spotted on either 17/03 or 18/03, so the storks are keeping to their schedule

The last 4 years there were 3 fully-fledged young storks every year and since 1980 there were 96 young storks altogether from this particular nest.
