Our villa was at the base of the tramuntana's, I am sure we saw a pair of black eagles hovering about, they are very rare,to see one is amazing but to see a pair, well I think we were blown away, also we saw a huge amount of robins there this year.

Peter, I'm not particularly interested in bird-watching, but i remember seeing a lovely big black eagle in full flow over the bouguer valley. Remember thinking people must spend days hoping for a sighting and we just caught one as we were out for a casual stroll.

At the risk of sounding like a nerd (I'm not - honest!) what you were looking at was probably a black vulture which is pretty rare on the island. There are about 55 to 60 of them. If you go to Cuber there can be up to a dozen or so patroling the skies.

Often seen these large birds circling over the mountains from our apartment it's good to know what they are.

You are right they are black vultures, been looking into it a good story, but as this not a chat forum, I guess thats all I should say.

Peter

If the story is relevant to Mallorca and Black Vultures, then feel free to post about it.

Thanks for the info, Jenny. :D

Been told the vultures relied on livestock being farmed, because it has gone numbers dwiindeld, but some guy now puts out carcases and has helped them survive may be only in small numbers but they survive, thats nature for you.

We had even more different birds flying over our villa this year at the foot of Puig Maria, we had Black eagles, ibis, a hoopee, a sea osprey and a peregrine falcon who came everyday and sat on the wires above until all the pigeons ganged up on him and drove him away.
