Mark, I hope it was in coloured crayon. Did they take the pens away from you?:lol

Re: RE:BOOKS

I'm reading "The Pursuit of Happiness" by Douglas Kennedy at the moment.

On holiday I read his book "Special Relationship" which was just brilliant. I couldn't put it down. He was writing as a woman suffering from post natal depression (don't let this put you off) and I was amazed that he could write so convincingly.

He's a fantastic author (in my opinion) and I'm going to work my way through all his books.

Re: RE:BOOKS

I have just started reading John Banvilles 'the sea' and wow!! i think i'm going to be seriously sucked in by this one!!:)
I'm not one to make a real habbit of reading but even if i'm nodding off tired i still have to pick it up and read a bit, beautifully written and a definate quiet time book (no kids allowed to be buzzing around)...
Well, if noone comes in to the chat room soon i think that's what i'll be doing !!

Re: RE:BOOKS

I've just finished another of Douglas Kennedy's books - "The Big Picture" and now I'm bereft...:\

It was brilliant - I just couldn't stop reading it and found myself totally involved with the character of Ben Bradford and the story of his life.

It was an amazing thriller that had my stomach churning with nerves every time I turned the page.

Highly recommended.

Re: RE:BOOKS

The Big Picture is the next book on my reading list. (So many of my friends have said what a fantastic read it is) Also, on Amazon EVERYBOBY is raving about it which says something. I haven't read any of Douglas Kennedys books I have to confess.

Am very into Jody Piccoult books at the moment and have just finished The Pact which I pinched from our holiday villa! ;) (I know, sorry, but I did leave about 4 there in return!) That too was a gripping read and the sort of book that has me reading into the night. My Sisters Keeper was fab too.

Re: RE:BOOKS

Jane, on your recommendations, I've ordered The Big Picture from Amazon. I'll let you know whether I listen to you again !!!

Chenies, I thought My Sisters Keeper was really good. Certainly got you thinking about the moral issues. I like Jodi Piccoult but after reading MSK and The Pact, thought I'd give her a rest for a while.

... and if anyones into classics, my favourite book of all time is Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Perhaps we could start a new thread ....

Re: RE:BOOKS

Ohhh Sandy...

I hope you enjoy it, but reading the reviews on Amazon I can't remember one bad word against the book. I was trying to explain to my husband tonight why I liked the book so much and I think it's Douglas Kennedy's skill of involving the reader by using the first person point of view that works so well.

I really felt for the character and went through real anxiety reading the book and I think it's the best of his I've read so far, although "The Pursuit of Happiness" comes close.

I've now started on State of the Union so I have something to keep me up to the early hours!

Re: RE:BOOKS

Reading the new Jilly Cooper "Wicked"! A great read but not at all intellectual - just makes me smile!!

Re: RE:BOOKS

Ok.
I have started reading 'the sea' again..... i think i'm actually going to be able to finish it this time!! :lol
Killian, it isn't a can't put down book, but at the same time it does make you want to pick it up and carry on reading if you know what i mean??
(am i talking rubbish again??)

Love Bonez x ;)

Re: RE:BOOKS

I know exactly what you mean about that book Bonez. There is something (though its hard to put your finger on it) that keeps you coming back for more.
Hope you get through it this time;) I felt that it was worth it in the end, but a good friend of mine thought it was rubbish:lol

Re: Re:Allen Carr

Just thought i would plug this old timer....Allen Carrs Easy Way To Give up Smoking, for those of you, who are wanting to quit.. This book is amazing, ive quit for 1.5 months now, and i was a hardened smoker, my eyes would be barely open, and i would need a cigarette. It is old, and loads have heard of it, but i hadnt, so im assuming others havent. The book removes your psychological dependency for cigarettes, so in theory you dont gasp etc, and im happy to say, not only have i quit, but ive stopped with out a gasp or mood swing in sight.....the book is amazing, if you know anyone, or you smoke your self, get it, it works....if it can help to make me stop so easily, then it will work for anyone...i cant praise this book highly enough..my only regret was not reading it years ago...

Debs....the now fresh smelling one !!!

Re:Good Books

I'm still reading Douglas Kennedy and have moved onto his latest "Temptation" which arrived from Amazon today.

I've loved all his books but The Big Picture was my favourite.

An earlier novel, The Job came close as well.

Sandy - did you enjoy?
