As a family, we try our best to steer clear of English food whilst on holiday - even the cooked breakfast!. I've heard or read somewhere that native Mallorquins often enjoy a breakfast called churros con chocolate - or is it xurros amb xocolate?? - some sort of tubular doughnut dunked in chocolate which sounds very tasty indeed and I wondered if anyone knew of an outlet that does these somehwere in the vicinity of the Llevant apartments? Are they as stodgy and yummy as they sound?

There was a place next to Tango which had a sign Xocolat or similar, looked to me as if it sold cakes, on the Formentor Road, could be worth a try. The little supermarkets with instore bakeries might have them too. Missed out on that one completely! Probably because still stuffed from night before and only could manage a yogurt!

Mmmmmm..cannot wait to try them to be honest! Don't remember seeing Tango last summer when we visited but we'll be seeking it out next week when we arrive as I have read some fantastic reviews in this forum ..sounds like the kids will love it..and we can all weigh up our breakfast options for the day after whilst there!

Muchas Gracias

Re: Churros

We did have a discussion on this before (the post may have disappeared) but the general response was that Churros with Hot Chocolate is more Spanish than Mallorquin & that you sometimes see a van selling them by the Market during fiestas. Churros are like dougnuts (batter) but long & thin & dipped in sugar - very slimming...

You won't see churros much in Mallorca apart from, like Pollensa said, sold from vans at fiestas . The Mallorcian breakfast speciality are ensaimadas.. gorgeous soft sweet pastry icing sugared scummynesses!! :b Sold either plain or with delicious apple or custard fillings they are a bit like a croissant. Avoid the pre packed supermarket versions which are dry and horrid ,and buy fresh and still warm from one of the bakeries. A carb nightmare and full of calories but will get you through till lunch time! :D ,
