Am I right in thinking though, certainly when I enquired, that at that price you also got a very good deal on a Spanish mobile phone usage?

We have the fusion pro package which includes a mobile phone with unlimited texts and calls to national numbers and internet to 3GB. I think our bill this month which includes UK calls, maintenance and a deal which gives us cheaper international calls was about 78 euro.

Thanks to both of you. Presume price includes IVA ?

Has anyone availed themselves of the log on log out service they offer when you are not here ?

If so, does it work as they say it should ?

This is a really useful discussion and a very current issue. We have our broadband & phone land line with EWTelco. I think this piggy backs on Telefonica but not sure. We have our own Draytek router set up to enable us to connect to our business in UK. I am interested in fibre optic service and know that our neighbour in Bellresguard has fibre optic installed with 30Mb download speed. Any advice welcome on whether we need to consider changing service provider (Telefonica / Moviestar / other/?) - I liked the sound of the reutllisation of owners existing router as well. We do not require mobile phone service. It would be really beneficial to be able to communicate in English as partly that is why we cchose our current provider - that and the low cost.

I can't speak for the other providers but Movistar (which is Telefonica) have been very good. There is always someone who can speak English in their call centre.

When we piggybacked our router on to the Movistar router it was to enable a quicker Wifi speed within the house, so I am not sure whether that would meet your requirements linking your router to your UK business. It might but I am not sure

We decided to bite the bullet and have broadband installed so popped into the Movistar shop on Joan XXIII on Tuesday morning. The girl there was very helpful and told us about the different packages available, television, no television etc plus one where you could have it for just 3 months then cancel and reactivate later. She said if we signed up now it could be installed on Friday. We said we would think about it. So we had a little think overnight and decided to just go for normal broadband but for all year round at 58.40 euros a month. Not the world’s cheapest but we paid that each to eat at IRU on Monday night so … Anyway, we popped back on Wednesday morning and signed up. She said that someone would call us but we needed a Spanish telephone number as they don't call UK mobiles. We asked her to ring our Administrators and speak to Georgina who would then ring us on our UK mobile. Being Wednesday, we strolled back through the market, bought some stuff, had a coffee at Mojitos came home had lunch on the balcony. I love PP. At 5:30 the same afternoon, the phone rang and it was Georgina telling us that “the lad from Movistar” was at the gate and could we let him in. An hour and a half later, whiz bang and we have very fast, fully functioning broadband. Wow! 10 out of 10 for Movistar service.

Are you reading this BT Openworld??

Movistar have really proven to be market leaders with their fibre optic broadband. In Uk the fibre goes to the green cabinet by the road that may be quite a distance from your property then it's copper wire and many dubious connections to your home resulting in the degradation of the signal.

Movistar is an entirely different concept and sets a new standard that hopefully others will follow.

The main supply fibre optic cable (the core just thicker than a hair) is fed to a distribution box at your home, from there another optical cable is routed wherever you wish direct to your own distribution box and connected using a high tech cutting and "welding" device and then fed to the router with no loss of signal strength. Existing copper telephone cables are not used.

The router is a completely new design (doesn't need piggy backing with other routers to improve speed) and has dual wifi capabilities, Movistar Standard and Movistar Plus. Basically this means later tablets and phones will have a faster download speed to the older ones. My system gives 300mb using Ethernet cable to TV, 150mb WiFi to latest devices and 60mb to older.

We chose the €62 a month option with free sim and telephone that plugs into back of router. We get free local calls and with the sim free local calls and texts.

The initial contract is only for three months but we will extend that to six and sign up again next May so averaging about €31 a month over the year which is a bargain compared to the appalling rubbish that some popular providers peddle with their non seasonal contracts.

Out of interest the fitter attached the Movistar tv box and demonstrated its capabilities and it was quite extraordinary, no hard drive storage just record direct to the cloud with all sorts of user friendly functions that would fill the page.

Now just waiting for Confort to deliver a Smart TV that provides a Netflix app when we come back at beginning of May.

Hi Molt, no. In the end between us coming over and our family there would only be about 2 months when the apartment would not be in use. We couldn't be bothered with the faff but we will see how it goes.

Out of interest has anyone purchased the Moniestar service online or via the telphone, as there seems to much cheaper options if you do not go into the shop ? any comments welcome please

We ordered ours by phone, and the price was the same as on the internet and in the shops. There are different packages which may cause some confusion

Helenjo - I contacted by phone and was offered a home visit - the prices offered were the same as in the shop. Had to wait a week for fitting but this was done quickly and efficiently and the service is fab-u-lous! No more buffering on my catch-up TV or downloads. Happy days!

Published by myself at the beginning of this year

I have been checking out the different options, mainly for professional reasons.

Google IB Red internet-vacacional-y-bonos.

It seems to be good value, but instalation and router are nearly € 100 extra.

Movistar only install Fibre Optic cables if available, which soon should be nearly every where.

The cost for a standard line is € 51 + IVA per month. This includes 300 mb and a mobile phone number with virtually unlimited calls.

Installation is free of charge.

After 3 months, you are eligible to use as and when needed by just paying for the land line at a cost of € 16.50 + IVA per month.

If you want to be able to use the mobile sim card whilst you are not here but lend to other people ( friends, family ) then the cost is € 27 +IVA per month.

So, to cut a long story short, if you use your property for say, 5 months during a calendar year, the total yearly cost would be around € 370 + IVA ( € 450 )

Hope this helps,

Molt

Has anyone availed themselves of this service ?

We use Movistar for 300MBPS internet, landline, mobile sim and TV package for €62 pm
the TV is great because if a program was originally recorded in English (eg NCIS or Hawaii 5-0) you can tell the tv to change the language from Spanish to English - good feature.
very pleased with the package. we go to the apartment once a month so don't need to use the facility to turn it off.
