Are there any members of Forum who have experience of buying a new car in Mallorca. If so I would appreciate their advice on procedures for purchase by a UK citizen who spends half a year each year and owns a property in Pollenca.
Of particular interest is the form filling etc involved in such a transaction.

I´m looking forward to seeing some interesting replies to this post. In particular information on the taxes involved. What is included / not included in the advertised prices you see on the billboards and is it possible to get an on the road´price like in the UK?

We bought our car new from the ford Garage in Pollensa before we were resident here. The car was ordered and we were given an on the road price including the taxes and extras e.g metallic paint. The only delay was that on arrival to collect the car we needed an Empadromiento, which we didn't have . We needed to get this from the town hall office ,so had to get a copy of our EScritura from the Solicitor first. Once we had that it was just a wait to get the matriculation (number plates) took 3-5 days I think. There was an offer on when we first enquired and although we were not back to collect the car for a few months the garage took delivery and stored it for us so that we got the best price.

We bought a new Toyota from the garage in Inca. All we had to do was to present our passports and NIE details. ( we are non resident) It was an on-the road price. Some garages wanted us to go through a lot more bureaucracy but it obviously wasn't necessary. Car tax is paid once a year in September with the other taxes. It hasn't increased and for us is €49 per year

The car is now 9 years old and we take it for it's IVA (MOT equivalent) in Inca. IVA is due after 4 years and then every two years.

Once you have a car you may then have to consider where to park it when you are away. Obviously it depends on how often you travel, but for us airport parking works out cheaper than taxis to and fro. There are various places at the airport where you can get a long term contract

Our friends also bought from Toyota Inca OTR price which they stuck to, same experiance as Alcana.
As an adage from my Uncle who has been a mechanic for the past 58 years, do not buy Renault ,Citroen Peugeot or Fiat ,apparently they are the most unreliable vehicles sold in Europe for the past 20 years.
hope that helps?

That rules out almost all cars in Mallorca lol. we have had our Fiat in PP for 5 years its now 7 years old we love it and have had no problems we also have a Suzuki Jeep in PP 6 years old again no problems and car tax and insurance is cheaper than UK fully comp car Insurance typically includes any driver over 25 And tax has been covered in another post again way less than the UK
just remember if you are buying a bran new shiny car our Majorcian friends have a special way of parking its more a bump and a shunt to get in or out so maybe a brand spanking new car is not the best way to go unless you are prepared for a few scrapes and bumps. Take a look around the Port I challenge you to find a car that has every panel in pristine condition :) Thats why when I bought our cars I went for something a couple of years old so we are less precious about them. Just a thought, But I assure you its way better than renting ours have paid for themselves 3 times over in the time we have had them one of the best things I ever did here next to buying the Finka of course lol. Enjoy :)
