Northern Ireland publishes new green list countries
We're still waiting for the update from the Department for Transport on the traffic light system but in the meantime it looks like the Northern Ireland government have gone ahead and published their list.

From 04:00 BST on Wednesday 30 June these countries will be put on the green list for NI:

Anguila
Antigua and Barbuda
Balearic islands
...

Apparently it was agreed at the U.K. level with all 4 countries agreeing but NI published it before they were supposed to

Scotland has also added the same countries!

It is totally great news but please, do remember, the Balearics are on the Green Watch List……this means that at the drop of a hat the government can (without warning) change the status to Amber while you are on holiday. I’m not trying to be negative, just suggesting that you have contingency plans in place - just in case. Last year we were in PP. when the quarantine was introduced without warning. It’s not stopping me going. Only just got back and I’m really happy that (all being well) we won’t have to pay £220 each again for tests! Two weeks today we will return. Happy days.

Am also reading that Merkel and Macron are pushing for all Brits to have to isolate on arrival in any EU country (as we do now in Germany apparently). So much for our friends in Europe.and the desperation to attract tourists. And mobile phone roaming charges are likely to be reintroduced. Of course this is all well and good if it works both ways..

I’m afraid that while Brexit (which I didn’t vote for) may well result in a number of benefits for us in the long term (we are, for example, we’ll ahead of Europe with vaccinations) there are many disadvantages. Transit through Palma airport is now far less easy, and for those of us owning property taxes are higher, access to television channels reduced, and phone charges higher.

But it is what it is. We won’t be having another vote any time soon (Please Scotland, consider this!) so we just have to get on with life. Personally, I’m still very lucky to be able to call PP my second home.

Vaccination programme was nothing to do with EU. Countries had option of joining the eu programme or not.

I think that’s what Disorderly is saying - by making our own arrangements we were able to get ahead of the game. Unfortunately, that advantage has/is being undermined by other factors..

There were a lot of happy workers in the Port last night, this has given them hope :).

I started watch Sky News about 4pm, as they said they'd be making an announcement in the afternoon....carried on checking my BBC app on the golf course from 5pm, but it was the Telegrapgh that flashed up that NI had added Malta and the Balearics at about 7.40pm and finally the UK at about 8pm. Was driving me to distraction!

So....back out with some pals on the 5th July. Happy Days!

I wonder if they'll be demonstrating in Palma again, with banners saying "tourists go home, refugees welcome" ?

Probably not but then it was only a minority that demonstrated before.

The vast majority know that they need tourism to survive ;).

Flying from the North West, I do feel slightly apprehensive that Brits are allowed to travel into Mallorca with neither vaccination nor test. I truly hope that the Spanish don’t come to regret that decision. That said, it ain’t gonna stop me!!! I’m double jabbed (as are all my family travelling with us) and, having returned from PP just over a week ago, have now had 4 negative tests in the last 9 days. Will be back in under 2 weeks so I’m going to be very careful between now and then! My grandchildren are coming too and will be kept out of nursery for a few days before travelling for the same reason. Really looking forward to coming back again.

I agree, I would prefer that those travelling from the UK were double vaccinated or tested in order to respect those living in Mallorca. Will be there soon.

I bet the population of Pitcairn Island (50 people at last count) are chuffed to know they are now on the green list.

Yep I feel slightly guilty as well to be going out in 2 weeks having had both jabs. I can’t understand why Spain haven’t insisted on people having a negative test before entering the country, but can understand that they are desperate to get their economy going.

Anyway who knows what the next two weeks will have in store. The cases at my grandchildren’s school are rising quite dramatically by the day and it seems to be primary age that are contracting it the most.
