We recently returned from PP having hired a car for one week from a company which is featured on this site.
On checking credit card on our return to the UK, correct rental charge had been processed and then later, an additional large amount had been passed. We were horrified to say the least, and immediately sent an email to the company enquiring what this was for. Their response was it was for damage to the car, which came as a complete shock to us, as we had returned it in original condition and a member of their staff took the keys from us and said OK. This we duly reported to company. Fortunately, we had taken out Excess Insurance with Insurance 4Car Hire, so we quickly rang them for a claim form, also advising Barclaycard of the situation. We duly filled in the claim form and sent it back with a multitude of photocopies requested, as is usual in this sort of case. Meanwhile, car hire company forwarded photos of said damage attached to Garage repair bill (curiously bearing a date 3 weeks before we actually hired the car). 2 weeks passed and lo and behold, we receive an email from car hire company to say after further investigation, they are reimbursing our credit card with said amount.
The motto is get a signature to confirm no damage when you return car or take dated photos. It's taught us a lesson!

This is truly awful and I really think you should mention the name of the company. Why should they be allowed to hide? Others might have just paid up. I wonder if they backed down when they realised they would be fighting an insurance company rather than just an individual without excess insurance!
We always take photographs of the car just in case. It may not always be possible to get a signature as sometimes depending on company the car may just be left on a floor at the car park. It is such a shame that car hire companies seem to have low customer service!

agree they should be named & shamed & all references/advertising removed from this site

We dont need to hire a car any more as we have our own here. But I agree 100% they should be named and shamed and no longer have the privalage of using the good name and reputaion of this site to advertise.
This company knew exactly what they were doing and a message needs to be sent out. There action in my oppinion brings the good name of this site into disrepute.

Perhaps viewing this thread will add to the knowledge base on car hire.http://www.forum.puertopollensa.com/car-hire-airport-transfers-majorca/4324-excess-insurance-annual-policy.html

Whilst I agree that Millipet has had a bit of a shock with an incorrect chargeback on their credit card, it would seem that the hire firm, once the error was brought to their attention, investigated and found that they had made an error and promptly reimbursed Millipet. Compared with some of the horror stories you see in the press, this hire company perhaps deserves a thank you for promptly admitting its error and refunding its charges.

As was mentioned in the previous thread, if you don't take out the hire companies top up insurance but rely on an independent top up insurance, then you should make sure any damage is recorded at the commencment of the hire and an operative signs for 'no additional damge' (hopefully) at the end of the hire.
