Certificate of Registration question

Hi,

We're coming to PP for 6 months later in the year and I wanted to see if we needed to go to the Foreigners Office and get a certificate of registration seeing as it's over the typical visitors timeline of 90 days?
We're there through the quite winter season and know it's going to be virtually deserted but is anywhere open year around?

Assuming you hold a British passport, the following link suggests that you do not need any further documentation. After March 2019, it's anyone's guess....

From my understandings, if you intend to stay for more than 3 months (90 days) consecutively, you will need to register at the Oficina de Extranjeros in Palma. You may be asked to 'produce evidence of sufficient financial means to support themselves (and dependants)', as per gov.uk site. Note, a day in transit, in Spanish legal terms counts as a day in Spain, UK legal terms is where you physically are at midnight. If you intend to stay for more than 6 months in a calendar year (183 days), you will also be liable to pay taxes in Spain. I am aware that some ex-pats take a further option, a relaxed approach. It is of course your decision/action, and always adviseable to do plenty of research.

As long as the UK is a member of the EU and you are a UK citizen, failing to register with the "Oficina de Extranjeros" will not be an "offense", provided you do not engage in any commercial activity. It will just be "non compliance", with no penalty.

If and when the UK leaves the EU, then it will be a whole different kettle of fish (or ball game).

If you plan to engage in any form of commercial activity, then you must first obtain your NIE (Número de identificacíon de Extranjero), whatever the status of the UK within the EU is.
