Tib has the following about paying with a debit or credit card -

Validate when entering and exiting

Each member of the group must validate the same bank card when boarding and alighting the bus, ...

Personally, after the price increases, I'd go for a taxi.
Though it's nice to have a spin on the bus once in a while.

If you pay by debit card it is cheaper than it used to be.

Looking at Big Sal's post 4, it doesn't look cheaper.

If it was 1.50 before (PP to Pollensa, single trip, 1 person), then the debit card price for the same journey is now 2.70 (1 hop, zone E1 to D2), and the cash price an eyewatering 4.50, no?
Or am I reading the zonal system wrong?

Hi Bootledodger, we used the bus to go to both Pollença and Palma last month and yes for two people you tap twice when getting on and again on exit. As usual the bus drivers are very friendly and helpful and happy to explain in good English:)

I'm not totally sure but from what I gather the Palma bus works out cheaper than it used to be.

I'm arriving early evening Fri and getting bus from airport to old town Alcudia - the buses use to be every c.15 minutes - looking at the timetables there is only the 322 now (the Can Picafort bus use to - but appears to finish in Alcudia now?) and they are only once every 35 minutes? does that look right?
If so i might go into Palma and go via Placa de Espana.

You can also catch the 324 and the 231 but they don't run as often.

Just seperately I am sure there is some logic somewhere but the 321 is the new route from the Port to CSV and has an interesting fare structure. It runs from the Port to Pollença and then to CSV. The return goes from CSV to Pollença and then the Port. In either direction if you get off in Pollença this is one hop and so costs a single person €2.70 by card or €4.50 if you pay cash. However if you stop on the bus and get off in the Port this is 0 hops and so costs €1.80/€3.00. I'm sure there's some logic (other than a line on a map).

A couple of weeks back I wanted to go down to the port. I waited for the bus but it didn't show. There were others waiting so I'm sure I wasn't the only one puzzled...

In the end we gave up and jumped in a taxi which cost €10.

Coming back I tapped my card on the bus, tapped off in Pollenca and I've just looked on my statement ... €4.50

I'll only use the bus to go to Palma now. I think that was €8.65... but I tapped twice that time...??? Nothing makes sense.

Thanks Bircho....

For those intending using buses around the island - the new "swiping on and off" with a contactless card on the buses is great. My trip direct from airport to old Alcudia and bus over to PP cost £9. Brilliant.

We went to Palma the other day. 2 people, one way, was just over 10€ using debit card.

We went into the info office at Alcudia to see how we could get a TIB card, but it's only available to Residents. However she did say that if you continually use the same debit card, it becomes cheaper

Do you know if they issue the cards at the Alcudia tourist office?

Coming out on Thursday for a long weekend and to save on cost will probably get the airport to Alcudia bus. Does anyone know where the bus stand to catch the A32 at the airport is? Many thanks in advance:)

Here is a link to the Bus Stop map, zoom in on the airport and there are two stops... click on each and you will see A32 the bus you need. One is for arrivals, one departure. :D

Bootledodger, doing the same trip on Thursday. Do you swipe on and off each bus or just at the start and end of the trip? Thanks in advance:)

You swipe on at the front and off at the back door as you leave. They're are 2 contactless readers at the back door
