This is a bit of a warning based on 2 experiences that we have now had. A couple of years ago our flight was delayed (according to the monitors) so we hung about the shopping area thinking we had loads of time when the monitors suddenly showed that we were boarding. We rushed through passports which had a huge hold-up & only just managed to make the plane in time. We were then informed that 2 families had not made it & their luggage would be offloaded.
We all objected as several people had been caught out & luckily they arrived within a few minutes.
This trip a family was not so lucky. Our Air Berlin flight was supposed to leave at 19:20 When we arrived it showed boarding at 20:50 with dep at 21:35 We didn't know whether we could even check in. I asked at the Air Berlin desk & she only had a delay of 35 mins with dep at 19:55. I explained about the monitors & she said 'they are always wrong'.
When we checked in I asked again. The first check-in girl had 'no idea'. Her colleague said there was a delay of 2 hours. Our boarding passes showed boarding at 18:35 (about the time we eventually checked in!). The monitors still showed 20:50. My son asked at Information who said follow the monitors.
Based on previous experience we went to the gate. & sure enough the monitors now showed boarding at 19:25 I asked at the gate & the Air Berlin girl said we would be boarding in about 10 mins. We boarded the plane & then were delayed whilst the luggage of another unfortunate family was offloaded.
Be warned - go to the Gate anyway - it's quite a trek across the airport!
