El Ancla / Sol y Mar alternative

Greetings one and all Life's 2 short so I better get on with it, we have enjoyed Leo and Anna as our hosts at El Ancla and Sol y Mar and it took some time to find a real Spanish place to eat and drink.

I know they have now retired and wish them a long and happy retirement after providing years of high quality service to us holiday makers.

Can anybody who lives in Pollensa recommend a similar establishment that is used by the locals and run by the locals. In the past we have found a place only to find it was taken over by someone else and the local Spanish feeling went with them out the door.

We are due to arrive in a week or so

The first time I found leo's place (El Ancla) it was in 1990. The rest as they say is history.

Believe me, I know PP as well as anybody and I am willing to bet there has been nothing and still isn't that come anywhere near what their place had.

It would go from scenes straight out of carry on abroad to food and atmosphere to rival the best.

Some of the best times of my life were had in their place.

Sunday lunch was my favourite time. Seats in the shade of the vines.
A plate of grilled prawns, a special salad, heaps of alioli and a bottle of chilled Rosado.
You could easily lose yourself just staring across that beautiful bay and many times I did.

The best way to describe the place was to compare it with a religion.
If you believed in it you did not need convincing.
If you didn't then no one was going to be able to convince you anyway.

Good luck with your quest.
I feel that what's gone is gone. You can't put your feet in the same river twice.

I'll just be forever thankful I got to experience it.


PS, If you do think you've found the new version on an old theme please let me know. I'll soon lower the tone.

Agreed Pollensafan, you will never find the same, But, and there is a big But the locals must eat drink and make merry somewhere?

I agree as I always had Sunday lunch and one good thing was Anna could cook a good Paella and I kept coming back for more.

To those who know me I will refrain from making any double entendre's concerning the part of your post mentioning "there is a big but"..
As for many thanks, well I'm not sure I was of any help re the theme of your post.

However, Oh how I would love to be proved wrong.

Try Bodeguita corner of Roger dear Florence and Calle Levant.
Family owned (from Seville) Always a nice welcome. Tapas with every drink if you want. lovely atmosphere ,lots of locals, lovely food.

A) Read Roger de Flor above, B) Never got to visit El Ancla or Sol y Mar, so can't compare, but most early evenings when in PP I pop into Bodiguita for a couple of beers and tapas and it really is very interesting and pleasant experience just being with the locals (and some tourists). Plus there is free wifi if you want it..

Yes Bodeguita for sure. Food lovely and atmosphere good too because still very much a locals place.

It's on the same street as the main bus stop and is opposite the car park.

Met Leo, Anna and Grandfather outside the chemist on the front, nice to speak to them as they have given a lot of people a lot of joy over the years.
