Probably because hardly anyone buys Newspapers in the UK now, let alone in PP. I subscribe to the Telegraph for £15 a month so havn't bought a paper for years!

Millions in the UK buy newspapers...nothing like holding a newspaper in the hand reading me footie reports.

It’s not about stocking so much as printing contracts. Most of the British press here terminated their printing contracts with local printers when they could due to Covid and the absence of an economically viable British expat/second home owner/tourist purchase market.

The Daily Mail ceased its Mallorcan publication a few days after last Christmas (2020) with a promotional campaign to move readers onto their Tablet edition which is the same as the printed version.

The remaining printed exceptions are the odd copy of the Daily Mirror and the continental edition of the FT (Monday to Saturday).

Perhaps some may return if, god willing, things return to a sustainable normal. The printed German press have stuck things through but both the expat and tourist German communities in and visiting the island are a lot bigger than the British expat and visiting tourist communities.

Thanks James - the owner (and wife?) of the lovely Tabacs on C de Joan were almost begging me to contact certain papers on my return to the UK to reintroduce them - they obviously think they draw enough business into the shop to warrant such a request.

It may not be everyone’s cup of tea (!) but, by way of update, in addition to the continuing daily (Mon-Sat) availability of the Financial Times and (Mon-Sun) of The Mirror the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday have, since the beginning of June 2023, been printed in Spain again and are generally available on the day of publication in newspaper stockists (Tobacconists etc.).

Sunday 25 June update:- I knew I shouldn’t have jinxed things by posting this update last night! There have been no English newspaper deliveries to the Port today but hopefully normal service will resume tomorrow!
