Hi Gorden, I did the rounds of the shops in town and that was the general rate in M&S, Travel shops and money shops. Did you mean the visa euro rate which was over 1.23 yesterday, the rate the banks use, if you have a commission free card that would be a brilliant rate for withdrawals

Hi SWS

Yes, that was the Bank rate.

These commission free cards are worth having if you are abroad a lot. :D

Just thought I would confirm the source.

Thanks

For those with an Ipad or IPhone or even perhaps any android phone there's a brilliant app called 'XE Currency'. It shows the live bank rate plus graphs of movements over day, week or month. You can also use it to work out your exchange rate. You can put as many countries in as you like. I check every morning after my daily visit to the forum what the £ to € rate is doing.

Thanks Whaley, off to the app store as I type!

Just done the rounds and the best rate I found was online with ICE, with free postage for next working day delivery.

Just wondered if anyone had used these online services before and if so which one? I was just wondering how safe and trustworthy they are. As you know the exchange rate is not great at the moment but ICE are offering the best and you get an even better rate if you change over a certain amount which we would be doing as we pay for our accommodation in euro's on arrival.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Suemo x

We have used ICE 3 or 4 times now and they are very reliable. Order one day and delivery the next working day by registered post. Their rates are usually good too and we have been very happy with their service.

I use ICE every month to buy furniture etc in Europe as most suppliers will only deal in cash, they consistently give the best rates in the UK, also anything under 5k can be collected from Waterloo Station if you live in the Smoke at the best rates.
No I don't work for them either.

I use a caxton fx visa eurocard, exchange rate I received on Friday was 1.15 plus no ATM withdrawal charges.Easy just to transfer funds from your bank account to the card and easy to keep track of your spending.

and easy to keep track of your spending.

Not something you necessarily want to be doing while on hols:(. Rather spoils the enjoyment of evening cocktails on the Illa d'Or terrace. Wait till your back home and the nights start drawing in. Fingers crossed enough time then to sort the plastic card things out before decisions on next years visit have to be made.:)

Latest Exchange Rates

The wife and I have now hit the stage where we can say "next month we will be in PP", so we are starting to look at the GBP to Euro exchange rate to try and get the best deal possible.

I was wondering what deals were happening locally in PP to see if its best waiting till we are there or shopping around locally in the UK first. Can anyone advise on what the local exchange rate is please.

Cheers

Kev

I think the exchange rates are all very similar at the minute......unless you are changing mega money;) A slight variation here and there is not really going to make much difference to the normal traveller and it doesn't matter where you go you are always going to see a better rate somewhere else afterwards aren't you.....it's sods law:)

If the rate goes up, say from 1.12 to 1.13 E to the pound (approx. as it is about now) you need to change about £900 (about 1000E) to get an extra 10E (about £9). This is just an indication - IF I have got my maths right. Hard to believe it went up to 1.25E to the pound (tourist rate) for a few days during last winter!
Never a good time to buy unless you are an Astrologer or a Banker and even they get it wrong most of the time! Good luck, you'll just have to 'go-for-it' soon.

Just got 1.1553 on the high street, bonus!! :):):)

I got 1.1696 on Saturday when I put euros on a prepaid card for my son:) Wish I had got mine then too:rolleyes:

We always manage to time it wrong, and end up getting a less than great exchange rate. Although most Bureau de Change will at least match comparative rates, if not better them with a little bartering !
